Did you do your install with floor jacks like this??!!

At least you admit it. Be safe! Knew a friend who almost lost his life bc a jack failed and almost crushed him.

Yeah. I have done some stupid things working on cars. I almost took out my eye with needle-nose pliers. Now I wear eye protection.

I'm saving up to get the Quick-Jack. I can't wait!

Also those of us with adaptive cruise are limited to a 5" core.

Luckily I live in the UK where our average ambient temperature, is well below that of most US states.

I won't even discuss knockoff junk intercoolers, I don't run junk on my cars and neither should you. Of the good intercoolers, I haven't yet seen a 5" that I like. If you're stock turbo/pump gas/cold climate and really just upgrading it for the sake of upgrading it... ok, maybe there is a small market for a nice 5" FMIC. It looks so nice and clean. Let's drink tea and talk about efficiency. I'm sure there are plenty of vendors that'd rather sell you two intercoolers than one lol.

If you're going to do it, put a good 7" or larger unit like the VRSF HD depending on turbos and end use application. ESPECIALLY IN A HOT CLIMATE. Guys, this isn't a wine tasting where just a slight hint of lag coupled with a medium/hot charge temp results in a driving experience that is juuuuuuuust right. Nah, stop fooling around and if you're really serious about power and/or hot climate put the 7.5" race on there and never look back. *some exceptions to track only cars that run less boost and need more oil cooling capability and need more radiator exposed but those guys don't read forums for input anyway

Real talk: at the top of 5th on a 170+ 1/2 mile run with large turbos wound out hard way past efficiency ranges, compressor discharge temps were north of 450*F. The giant AD-e Tony's had on the car since the stone age scrubbed off 300*F. I mean no one wants 150* charge temps but on a 95*F day that's not bad at all. Obviously this is an extreme application, but that's why he has the "special" 1200 whp FMIC. I've paid a lot of attention to compressor discharge temps being as you could say I'm something of a turbo guy. It's natural to also note charge temps and draw some conclusions.

More than likely you're going to run mhd or jb4, go ahead and get the 7. More headroom...

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a somewhat related question...hopefully someone can answer.

I have a 335is convertible and really want minimal trimming, prefer none...how much is required on the VRSF 7" on a 335is, specifically the convertible?

The 7" and 7.5" race intercooler will requires trimming whereas the 5" stepped does not.

Trimming of the plastic shroud takes less than 10 minutes and the performance gains over the 5" are worth the effort. Please note that the bumper does not need to be trimmed, only the black plastic shroud.

the trimming is a bit of a pain but it's worth it to go with a 7" one such as vrsf ones. But on all honesty instead of trying to fuk about trimming to get the intercooler to fit, it is far much easier and quicker just to take the whole plastic shroud off. It doesn't serve much a purpose anyway and it looks so much better and cleaner looking with it completely off. Go with 7" ull be glad u did 🙂

I agree, I got rid of mine completely when I went to the VRSF race. It does nothing. If anything it was blocking some airflow to my oil cooler up top by the grills.
