Mod 103 - M3 steering wheel

Getting ready for this weekends Alpine cruise with a new M3 steering wheel.
Swap over is pretty simple (link to DIY below)

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1550672

Sad to see my custom flat bottom steering wheel with orange stitching retiring to the garage, we did some great drives together

Hopefully someone buys it and it goes to a good home

Meanwhile .............

I drove this car on the Omeo highway on our recent trip and I can say I was very impressed with the amount of grip these new tyres have. Could really lean on the front tyres and there was very little understeer. With the powerband of the turbo, you really want to be in the right gear to power out of slow corners, was fantastic rowing my own gears in SPCGRY. The sound of the EFR was echoing in the twisty forest roads, simply brilliant.

I was pretty happy with how it handled. AD08Rs are my new fav tires mate

Need to do some work to tighten up with waste gate, and another revision of the tune, now the new manifold and everything is in

Mod 104 - Helix Audio Upgrade - Part 1

Spcgry is back from Profound Sound after stage 1 of the audio upgrade.... as promised a full review ...... First up big call out to Jay and Rhys from Profound. Rhys made sure I was looked after and is one of the most customer focused guys you could wish to meet... and Jay who did the install and tune. Did an amazing job going above and beyond on the wiring loom and attention to detail across the whole fit out. Then he followed up with a detailed run down of the build spending time to make sure everything was perfect before handing over the car. Very professional all round.

Stage 1 involved swapping out the audison bit 8.9 and Alpine monoblock, which while nice kit, was simply not beefy enough to handle the 10 speaker active set up and13" sub. These components were swapped out for a Helix V8 DSP running the in cabin speakers and a Helix M one driving the in boot sub. Nice clean mounting of the hardware under the boot trim, All new wiring ready for stage 2 and a tune to give a crisp and clear front sound stage..... In addition the Hexlix V8 was fitted with a BT expansion car (for lossless BT streaming) and a controller for bass and vol.

So how does it sound? In a word awesome. would love another 10% in max vol but is clear as a bell maxed out, bass is incredible and the sound stage is great.... overall im very happy with how it's turned out

So how much did this cost? well cant kiss and tell, but I can say top end hardware and master craftsmanship aint cheap but the final bill was spot on, good value for money (no raping) and best of all the result was top class.....would I recommend.... yes best audio shop in Melb ... IMO

Pics below

Pic 2 - Before - note the messy wiring loom
Pic 3 - After
Pics 4 - 7 Helix V8 DSP and Helix M One amp
Pic 8 & 9 - Boot
Pic 10 - Controller (to be mounted)

Yeh carpet is pretty spotty after fuel cans and stuff from the alpine drive.
I’ll get to it as soon as the sun comes out here in Melb lol

Holy crap, just spent the better part of a week reading through this whole post! Amazing work on the car Socket, the look has changed so much from when you first picked it up all those years ago. Definitely makes me want to start modding the hell out of my space grey 335i as well, though maybe not quite as insanely as yours
Much love from Canada!

Only around the doors and under the seats, although it might be a good idea to do the boot/trunk area, to reduce the horrendous drone from the Vanguard exhaust

Congrats on making it all the way through the tread Ostrich

Didn't exactly start out to sink so much money into this car, but no regrets
Hopefully you got a couple of ideas for your build

My only advice, plan out what you want to do and do it right once.... most of my spend is because I've done things three or four times (eg head light AE upgrade, body panels etc)

Depending on what direction you want to go in, my top three mods would be MHD tune (free power) ditch the run flats for some good quality rubber and rims of your choice and finally some quality coilovers (stock suspension is terrible) for a little spend the car will go from meh to woah

Really pleased you enjoyed the read, all the best from down here in Oz

The sound of that turbo spool through the mountain twisties was eargasmic!
Tried pretty hard to stick up behind you when when you took spcgry but when that turbo kicked in, that car was out of reach. Or maybe it was your driving? Hmmm....
