Starter question

Quick question: my car is sometimes randomly hesitant to start and i suspect the starter since i have already changed in the last year the coils, sparks plugs, battery etc..

My question is: can the dealer diagnose that a starter is starting to fail? Or it will simply be one day the car wont start?

Thanks for your help.

Yes it is a process of elimination; the ground cable ( common issue-rot out ) then starter itself. Dont wait go to a good independent BMW shop not the dealer for a 2008 car...you'll end up stranded on a cold night somewhere

My car refused to crank about 2 weeks ago. I only got the car 3 months ago so I don't know what a healthy starter is like - mine was working ok until 1 day it just refused to start.
A new starter motor fixed my problem

I'd suggest you undo and clean/refit all the battery and earth cables while it's still working.
I found it useful to trace the starter circuit in the engine compartment, then it's easy to tell if the starter is getting 12 volt "trigger" when you press the starter button.

If you have good power, earth, and starter trigger voltage and still have problems - swapping the starter would be my next step.
Good luck, let us know how you get on

I have to bring it to dealer since the the party extended warranty mentions this. The warranty expires in 2020.

So the dealer would be able to diagnose it even if the longer cranks are longer only in random occasions?

My 2011 e90 has been doing the same thing, every once in a while the starter sounds like it's not going to make it... One of the last times I was at the dealer they told me there was some ghost code that suggests the starter is on its way out.... So I think that the dealer can diagnose it in some cases.
