Oil Filter Housing Gasket Diy
E93, 10 years old, had my airbag replaced by BMW under recall. Tech reports
that my oil filter housing gasket is leaking with dire predictions if it fails. Repair estimate.....wait for it.....$500++. Yikes: I searched DIY's on the BMW blogs and YouTube and decide to replace it myself. Well...I did it! I bought the OEM manufacturer's gasket for only $10 from FCPEuro. The housing is a bear to remove as two of the bolts are difficult to access. The bolt under the manifold can be accessed by a 1/4" E10 socket, universal joint and extension. The bolt at the lower left facing the housing is mounted backwards, also limited space and can be best removed via an E10 ratchet. It took some time but I removed it with only a trickle of lost oil and antifreeze. The gasket did look funky but....wait for it...no evidence of leaks! Buying a few tools that I did not have plus the gasket resulted in an out of pocket cost of only $30! Me so happyhappyanim |
