Carly Sucks
$80 for adapter.
$60/year for app subscription. -SES is on but it says i have no codes -App launches and says I'm out of date on iOS. Not possible if the app was written properly and auto updates like everything else on the planet. -Interface has multiple (different) options to connect to wireless adapter, and for whatever reason, they are not interchangeable. So if you connect on the main screen, then click "OBD Shit", you have to connect again. Stupid and waste of time. -Once you connect, you have to hit "back" to find the actual features. This is counter intuitive. It should connect and take you to the screen with the features. Hitting back makes me feel like i'm going to have to reconnect a 3rd time. -Carly has all of these "insights" features aimed at soccer moms and they mask the real coding and OBD buttons because they're much larger and more prominent, and make navigating more confusing. Who the F are they marketing to and who are they selling to? I won't ever recommend their product and I'm mad I bought it. I can't even check my SES. [/Rant Prob Not Over] |

Mine takes several tries to connect. I got mine before it became a subscription service. It used to work okay, it was just slow. Now it sucks and is slow haha.

I haven’t had any issues with the app and I’m on the current Apple iOS. Although, I didn’t buy their adapter because my $15 Amazon module works fine. Have you contacted them to try and troubleshoot?

FWIW I have similar issues and I have their adapter and the latest iOS on my phone. The app is also the latest version. Definitely seems like it got worse after the last update.

Been using Carly at least four years. Is there a reasonable alternative? Open to trying something new....

unfortunately, bimmercode module wont work on e90... its way cheaper.
carly is way too expensive. Unless you want to code, a generic dongle will do the job just fine for diagnostic. K dcan cable and a laptop to manually code, longer but cheaper. (like ncs expert) Annual fees are the best way to need the carly adapter 367 days after the 1st payment. Audi got OBDeleven, the dongle is about 60$ iirc, then you buy credit for coding. so you pay for what you need. |

I'd suggest taking a look at the Bimmergeeks app: https://www.bimmergeeks.net/
Its only available for Android though. As I have an iPhone, I just decided to get a cheap Android phone on Black Friday and keep it in my car for whenever I need it. So far, I have been very happy with the app. |

Bimmerlink is used for scanning codes etc. However, it is not as good as carly when it comes to reading everything at once. bimmerlink will require you to read things 3 times (codes, permanent codes, and info). |

Bimmercode + my Veepeak ODB2 dongle did all the coding I wanted it to do. Already had the Veepeak so it was easy. Would have done Bimmergeaks if I had an Android device.
I just ordered a Bimmergeeks K+CAN cable & I have a Win7 VM I'm building with Rheingold for diagnostics, when I need it. edit: I hadn't considered Bimmerlink, may have bought that if I didn't have the K+Can cable on the way already... seems that bimmercode + bimmerlink & a bluetooth ODB2 adapter will do pretty much everything the average enthusiast would want on the iOS platform, no need for Carly.... |

Its very expensive if you buying now.
I bought mine when it was just a one off cost of £40 and a genuine adapter for another £40. I bought it as it saves carry a laptop and 1 battery registration its already paid for. When I see people on local forums debating to buy it.. i normally offer them to use mine if they buy me a bucket of fried chicken. Few local guys promised to turn up but never turned up. Maybe I should lowered my cost to a can of Cola instead of a bucket of fried chicken and people would borrow mine |

I think I paid $50 for my OBD and then $60 for the app. Never had any issues with it until they changed to a yearly subscription. I contacted customer service, within minutes someone called me, updated my account, resintalled the app and no more problems. I still have the app on my phone and my OBD, but no E93.

I have Porsche tools, and I routinely offer to let PCA members use them for free. People never show up, a large majority of the time. And then you read later that they had a dealer do it... strange, but experience appears consistent. |

I've used Carista to do some basic coding like lights, folding mirrors, and remote windows, but I'm on Android so not sure if they are on iOS.
CEL on without codes may be service related? Mine is currently on because it wants me to do the ~75k service. |

Then you contacted Carly customer service by e-mail (what did you say?). Then they called you by phone? (what did they say?) Then they updated your account. Then you reinstalled the newest Carly app and it is unlocked with full programming capability. And you got all this without paying anything extra? (because you were a pre-subscription paid Carly app user?) Just want to confirm your situation because I am also a paid pre-subscription Carly user. Last edited by Chewy5; 09-23-2019 at 09:38 PM..
