Just called my dealership and they said the recall does not apply to my car. Production date is 07/2010. As far as I know it should fall under the recall, no?

The best way to force recalls and extended protection is for the effected parties to file a complaint with the NHTSA.gov
You can do it online. Once NHTSA sees multiple failures that cause a safety concern, things get resolved pretty quickly.

Obvs then there is more to this than just year and date. ITs probably linked to the location of the engine assembly.. if your engine was not assembled at the "bad location" then you have nothing to worry about. I would trust the recall system because its safety related and its a robust system... If the system says u dont need a recall then you dont need. Its pre determined based on the VIN. If you vanos failed and ur engine failed then you got into an accident you can sue.. if they made a mistake thats why the recall system you can trust. Its not like they have a choice of doing it or not.. THEY HAVE TO or they dont have to..
