It should be pretty much rock solid once up to temp.

How much does it drop by?

Mine 530d gets to 92ºc and will never really drop, maybe to 91ºc, but that is all.
maybe a couple or 3 degrees..but never tried my temps in hot weather,,was back end of last year when tried..dont suppose it would change much though..

Okay so just checked temps now on a 20 min drive. Start, stop, put it into S for last mile and give some thrashing...max. temp when I parked up was 88degC. I'm assuming this is okay. I am going on a longer run later tonight so will see how it is. Got me intrigued!

Remember US gallons are different to everyone else's gallons!

4.54 litres to an imperial gallon, only 3.5 litres to a US gallon, so roughly 20-25% less MPG for US cars.

I would say most will get between 32-42mpg average depending on driving, that is UK, so 26-34mpg US.
Ok yeah that does clarify some I forgot about the imperial gallon.
But still, most US users I see posting are struggling to even get 25mpg, meanwhile UK users are stepping on the pedal and getting 27-30 US mpg (35-40 imperial MPG). Is the emissions all that more restrictive in US?

leaving it to idle is a better way to see if it gets to temp or sto start traffic driving .but should still get over 90 degrees especially in this hot weather, when doing temp test never have heaters on though//dont know if aircon would matter though,,although the engine would be working harder and in theory be getting to temp quicker..

Yep, today to work, which is 5 miles start stop traffic over about 20ish mins, I parked up and let it idle for 2 mins. It didn't go above 70degC... 2 mins might not be long enough though so need to leave it at idle for a long time. Just hate doing that! Lol

Yes, I did that and it gets to about 50 very quick and then slows but still climbs steadily to about 67ish then is very slow. Unless I give it some very hard blasts of acceleration, it doesn't seem to go above that as per my above post about it not going above 70.
