Lets set it up.
Get an E90 M3 owner and also a Litchy and get them to brunters for a 60 roll race. Through in an M6 also for good measure. Then an LP640 to show them all a good hiding.

but.... Surely if both cars were in the correct gear so that they are either on cam or in the torque zone then it wouldn't be as clear cut would it, surely the transmission losses wouldn't be that great would they? A 1.9tdi golf can walk away from me on the motorway at rolling speeds if I'm not in the torque band yet I have more ponies and more twist

Its all about power to weight ratio, which is what I have been trying to say - The Modded ED30 has approx 330BHP and weighs 1350 kgs - 244BHP per ton, the RS4 avant, 414BHP and wieighs 1710 kgs - 242BHP per ton, chuck in DSG, and its all simple really.
A customer/friend of mine has an Ed30, that I have modded for him in the same way as Vtec abusers - TB Milltek, map, cold air intake, Eibachs and DSG - It is a seriously fast car - We have done some runs together, yesterday in fact, and it was very close, but no easliy pulling away in anyones favour, but he was by himeself, and I was 4 up. The RS4 that Vetc abuser video shows, must have been a 'slow one', has there seems to be such a large variance in the RS4 FSI engine output. |

You'd be a bit cheesed off if you spent a load of cash on an RS4 to find it was at the bottom end of the variance scale!

Mine was!!! Only to code read it and find the MAF was faulty, all replaced under warranty and going fine now though.
The RS4 wasn't the World Performance Car of the Year 2007 for nothing you know..... |

Going off Vtec's quartermile, he only just beats the RS4, due to the great launch the rs4 can achieve, on the roll it would muller them as his vid shows.
Oli your mates one must be low powered? Id expect to run a RS4 on the road. The quarter usually 13.3-13.4@103.

But medium speed rolling figures are all about torque... BHP only kicks in again higher up when drag needs power...
That's why my 286 BHP beat 380 because I had 420 Ft Lbs and he had 370 ish with much higher transmission losses.. |

But the Mini cooper s and s works are turbo and have the same thing so they must have reduced the problem otherwise they wouldn't have fitted it to the cooper s and cooper s works. Sorry I've been thinking about this since I read your original post!

Foxy - you got me thinking after I read your post and was scratching the old grey matter a bit, but then Paul has given a good explanation I'd say.

no, no, no , no ,no . you cant do a like for like comparison on that scale as putting exotica against bull shittery, scooby with porsche brakes and other bits vs std car.
If thats the case, brabus rocket, G power M5, Gpower M3 E9X, Brabham M3, RD's 335i. Sorry if price for price comparison in its league are omitted, whare are the greats, Skyline R35 GTR, ?? , My point being this car is not standard !. lightweight doesnt = great handling - rant over
