Did anyone get extended warranty when they first purchased their car? How much extra is it?

For my on-order 2009 E93, I was quoted $2975 for a 7/70 to extend the warranty only -- not the maintenance. Maintenance would add another $3K+ to that figure. Both appear absolutely exorbitant. The 7/70 was not something they generally offer and had to be pushed to look at alternatives ... I have no need for the mileage, only time since I keep my toys for several years. The 7/100 would have been more bucks.

While this will be my first BMW and I have no personal experience with the quality of my new 335i, I doubt very much I'll buy the overpriced extensions when I take delivery ... If I did change my mind before the base 4-year warranty expires, they can be purchased then. The only reason I'd consider buying the extended warranty upfront is if I wanted the cost included in my financing or to lock in the price of it now (probably will go up year-to-year).

I just finished my deal today for my BTO 335i convertible, should be delivered late next week. I paid to extend the 4/50 maintenance to 6/100 for $1995...the same as I paid 4 years ago for my 530i e39 back in 2004. The dealer rolled that cost into my .9% financing!

I did NOT take yet the 2/50 extension of the warranty (to go to 6/100). The dealer was going to charge me $2450 for that for the BMW warranty. I may or may not do it later as there are aftermarket deals that are as good or better.

So how much maintenance do you think the car needs in the final 2/50 to be worth $2000? if I pay out of pocket everytime I go in, will it exceed $2000?

For my 2002 530i, in the last 50K of the 6/100 maintenance plan, I received 3 Inspection I's, 1 Inspection 2, brake service including pads and rotors, coolant flush and some other incidentals. My brakes did not need servicing until 65K miles so I know that would not have been covered under the original maintenance plan. All covered services (4 individual visits in total) included the "free" loaner car. I visited the dealer a couple of other times on my own dime for extra oil changes which I paid for.

So, I think it was worth it. But everyone will have a different opinion of course.

the extended warranty might be worth it....... BMW is known for breaking down.....

my car has about 47k miles......6-7 defected visits to the dealer.........all covered under warranty......

but the extended maintenance.......

two free oil changes and Inspection I(which is inspection of the vehicle only)......nothing done or change.

i hope Inspection II is more than just inspection of the vehicle.....

i don't need an idiot to tell me that my car is running okay.....and make me sit all morning in the lounge....
