Another update:
Discount tire is refusing to pay for the damage after they sent an adjuster to look at the car....The rep. I spoke to was having a hard time defending her company when I asked her about the company policy. Their company policy (after 1000 miles, they're not liable) is acceptable IF they write it on the work agreement and I signed it. I think they just don't want to replace anything because of the cost of it. I told them I had driven it for about 2000 miles after the install....I may need to file a lawsuit against them. The adjuster came up with a damage of over $2000 up front + whatever else needs to be replaced once it's taken apart... Last edited by 16M4; 06-22-2011 at 07:48 PM.. |

HOWEVER, I will cancel it Local Discount Tire has stepped up and willing to make things right. The manager spoke to his boss and they said they don't want to lose me as a customer (been with them for 11 years or so). THIS local store has offered me the following: 1. Wheel replacement 2. Four brand new tires of my choice (the manager told me to pick the most expensive ones ) 3. Take my car to Murray or Gebhart for repair I told them I didn't want to take an advantage of them because of this. I told them I just wanted them to get me a wheel replacement and repair my car. I also told them I wanted them to prorate the rear tires when I purchase two new rear tires from them. I think I am more than fair. I even told them I was paying for the lugnuts that I just ordered today. Last edited by 16M4; 06-23-2011 at 01:55 PM.. |

Sounds like you came to a good resolution with them, good job Discount Tire for stepping up and not making it more of a messy situation then it already is.
Plus with the internets these days, they know that stuff gets around pretty quickly. |

wow thats crazy! The good thing here is no one was hurt. I'm amazed how at such high speed the wheel kept in place and the rotor was riding the inside rim! That definately prevented some undercarriage damage...and more importantly it didn't fishtail your ride. I would agree the bolts were on too tight and when it gets hot (through brake transfer and/or ambient temps) the rotors and lug bolts will expand slightly which would further stress the bolts if the were overtightened to begin with. Discount is likely avoiding a lawsuit which is why they are willing to fix everything. Someone will most likely lose their job for that mistake.
Hope it work out for you. I've been a customer of Discount Tire since 2003 myself. My horror story was about 3 months ago when I purchased a set of DWS and came home to find 1 tire was losing air overnight. I went back in the next day and they told me the bead was torn by the technician when he first tried to put the tire on because he didn't know I had a reverse-mount wheel. So they said I would get a new tire, and they finished up. The next morning the same thing happened! I decided not to go back to the 92nd Ave Westminter store and went to the 120th Thornton shop. The manager there showed me that the bead was infact torn and I suspect they tried to use the same tire twice! I can't prove it but the manager at the Thornton shop squared things up and I've had no problem since. I gave that Westminster shop a bad review on their website and commended Thornton for fixing it. |
