The new 330i makes me miss my e90 330i

Title pretty much says it all.

Ended up with a 2020 G20 xDrive 330i for a week or two as a rental.
Maybe it will grow on us...but first impressions for my wife & I....well, just not our cup of tea. I have not been testing other cars lately, so maybe it's better than most - but not our '20 Tesla or e92 335...

Hood is huge, interior is cluttered with tech and shiny bits, and the 4 banger is constantly shuddering to life or shuddering to shut down. Gas pedal is sensitive and the torque delivery touchy (hard to provide smooth ride for passengers). Electric steering is dull compared to our M3 Tesla.

There are good things for sure - but I wasn't actually planning to write a review. I was just shocked how much it made me miss my e90 330i 6MT.

And I never owned an F30 gen to compare. Instead, I just wanted to say to all the folks still experiencing e9x 328, 335, and the special few with e90 330i....give it some love, because they hold up really well against these new ones for driving experience!

Great cars. The wife's 330i manual sport has 248k on it, and i'm hoping to keep it around past 348. Sold mine at 284 and still felt like when I bought it at 142.

Couldn't have said it any better! i dropped off my 2007 E92 328i off yesterday at the dealership to do the 3 outstanding recalls the previous owner didn't do and I got to get the 2020 330xi as a rental from them and it made me want my E92 back so fast... I don't know if its the new G20s but I think modern cars in general have really added so many "safety" features and gimmicks into cars now a days and its really taken away from the whole driving experience. Simple as the electric steering which I could turn with a pinky, or the constant lane assist trembling the car as soon as it thinks you're veering into the other lane. I liked how the interior looked but they even made the automatic shifter into a weird pivot thing....

Not for me, I like the heavy steering, simple interior and more driver to vehicle connection!

Oh wow I’m never around here anymore so your post is def timely.
I’m still very much in love with my 2006 330i...picked her up in 2007 with an eye on keeping her long term. 250K km later still going strong!

I hope to keep her in the stable as long as she’s willing!

I'm not gonna lie, I really do miss the E90. As much fun as the M3 is, I had more fun modifying the E90. Maybe because I was younger, but it was such a solid nible car.

Only new BMW's I have liked driving as much cars from the E9x / E8x era are the proper ///M cars and the new Z4 (but it needs a PDK and manual badly).

No issues with engines or chassis. Hood bulge is ridiculous. Its lack of good steering and manual. Also tbh the stickshift is a bit soft and gooey though clutch is not bad. Lots of body roll on the 3 series; more than I expected tbh. Steering on the ///M and Z4 was almost Porsche like in EPS goodness.

If Porsche made a manual Panamera or smaller I'd never look back.
