Most cost efficient way to go to an OEM sport suspension from non-sport on an xi?
Hi all,
Car is at 86k. Rides so much better than my previous car, but I feel like a suspension upgrade is this one's future. Would love to lower it with the B12 kit, but I have to consider that it's a daily driver and will see plenty of snowy winter days. So, I was wondering how to get something factory height, but still lower than the non-sport xi suspension and maybe not have to spend $900 + install costs. Thanks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

I've done the research for my E91 xdrive and unless you want to put together something completely custom (specific custom springs etc.) the only thing I came up with is ST X or KW V1 coilovers. Everything else goes lower.

Yea, seems the KW v1 offer enough travel that I could raise them up for winter driving higher than other options. Like the BC have a minimum 2 inch drop, the KW advertises .6" at it's tallest. Not so much cost effective, but it is what is lol

Well I put the regular 'i' sport springs on my. I think there was a small drop. Some of this will depend on which 'D numbers' you use. I used 'D5' front and 'D3' rear. Front is still a little higher than rear, but not too bad. These are widely available used -- which is how I got mine.
I originally put Bilstein B8's on 4 corners -- which helped on the 'crashing' but rode quite firmly. A few years later I swapped out the front's for Koni yellows which gave a more compliant ride. I'm pretty happy with the way it is now. I do recommend using Z4m bumpstops on the Konis (Bilsteins don't need bumpstops). Also I'd replace the shock mounts as well. I used the Dinan rear mounts. Finally I'd recommend monitoring the tire pressure. When the oil change place overfills the tires -- I can feel it. 33/37 is as high as I'd go -- and this is with non-RFTs. |
