Not sure what its called but this is what it looks like... I got three different sizes and used the 12 mm tool on most of the panel work. Hope this helps

Socket Thank you so much for this DIY. donation worthy if I do say. I am going to be using this to help with my car audio install on my 09 E92 328xi . Going to be installing speakers in the A-pillars, running wires from the center console/dash, and sound deadening everything as I go.
main question: how much time should I budget for the carpet removal and re-installation? I am thinking 3 days to be safe. Also, what is your preferred method for keeping everything together and keeping track of everything? How do you know loose anything? What parts should I keep on hand that are likely to break? Thanks in advance. |

Happy to give back to the community if it helps someone out I't took me a full two day to do the complete swap but that included carpets , consoles, doors, pillars headliner, rear parcel shelf and seat belts etc (which are covered in other DIYs) Given you are doing the speaker install, i would allow the third day for sure.... Just one thing to point out, I dont think you can install a tweeter in the front pillar because the tweeter pods would interfer with the air bags in the pillars. You should mount them in the corner of the windows like the pic below Re organizing and spare parts, is not to bad if you keep the DIY close and use tape number wires and a notebook to sketch diagrams lel Only real thing that I would buy as spares is the plastic studs that hold the door panels in place because they break or bend easily otherwise not much else Take care with the wires and airbag electronics under the front console, it is easy to damage or pinch a wire putting everything back together Really its pretty easy to do, although when I had stripped the interior and was looking at the bare metal shell, I did think for a moment omg Ill never get this all put back together lel Good luck with the build mate, just PM me if you need help |

Socket Thanks for the reply. I have done full interior disassembles before on a mini cooper and mazdaspeed3 but never have I seen such a detailed DIY. Makes me happy to now be apart of the e90 community when there are members like you putting out detailed DIYs. It usually takes me 2 full days but since I am doing sound deadening along the way, I wanted to budget that third day.
I am going to go ahead with the A pillar speaker pods. I have done it in the past without issue and from what I've seen, if it does deploy the air bag goes towards the window so it will just crush the windshield. Sound quality greatly improves as the speaker get moved forward which helps minimize the difference in the left and right speakers and puts the center image right above the dash Once again, thank you for your help. |

Thank you so much for this thread. It has helped quite a bit.
Did you end up changing the color of the ambient lighting?

Yes, this is one of the MOST useful posts I've ever seen on here. I'd love to see one of these for replacing the iDrive screen and removing the dash vent near the windshield. Thanks for all you put into helping the community.
