Sounds like your glow plugs are not working, maybe the controller needs changing. Have you reread the codes since changing the glow plugs?

I've got exactly the same issue as you and I'm looking at injector 2 as the possible cause now.

Changed the controller last week. Cold mornings it's still smoking / shaking for 20 seconds, no error codes like yours.

Injector 2 takes a good minute to stabilise down to a suitable level on INPA I've noticed.

Guessing it's lazy / on it's way out.

It's strange when the temp is over 10 degrees it starts perfectly though

Get yourself a D-Can cable and use INPA to check the injectors. Got mine off bcables and it's been a god send for finding problems.

You could try some injector cleaner too. Hasn't really made much difference to mine tbh.

What mileage are you on?

Have a look on YouTube. Failing that I'll plug mine in tomorrow and give you instructions.

Look under different models e.g. E46 or the contemporary 5 series. You might find your engine there.

When I had my Z3 which was an E36/7 I had to use a combination of E36, E39 and E85 to find all of my modules.

On my software (6.0.1) I can find the N47 engine under E87 1 series.

Unfortunately, to give detailed guidance I need to connect to the correct DME and I do not have one since my car has an N54 engine.

If you go into the N47 DME and hook up your car you should be able to see somewhere live inputs to the ECU from various bits and bobs.

Just run through the available menus but make sure you have a good charge in your battery as these cars can soon discharge a battery when "playing" with INPA. I usually connect a battery charger to the jump start terminals under the bonnet if I am running diagnostics with the engine off but having said that if you want to see live inputs you need the engine running anyway.

It is sounding like maybe you have a leaky injector but that is an expensive route to follow unless you can confirm one of them is at fault.

If one of the new glow plugs was dodgy then surely it would throw up a code

You could take the spark plugs out after the car has been sitting over night, if any of them are wet with fuel then you have an injector issue.

But as Senny pointed out it's a diesel so you can't take the spark plugs out
