What maintenance should I tackle first?

Hi all,

First post here, so glad to be a part of the community. Recently inherited my late father's E90 2008 328i and wanted some advice for what maintenance I should perform.

Current mileage: 30,xxx

Not a typo, my father and I only drove this car in the summer and even then not so often.

The car is in absolutely pristine condition from a cosmetic and mechanical perspective too. During storage I have always detailed it before, added fuel stabilizer to a full tank, checked tire pressures, and had it hooked up to the trickle charger.

As of now I am planning on performing an oil change and giving a check to all the other fluids. Wondering if it makes sense to perform a brake bleed or any other fluid service given the age of the vehicle. I have had no problems whatsoever when I drove the vehicle last summer *knock on wood*. I hope to keep this car with me forever as it's a family heirloom at this point and any tips for keeping it in tip-top shape would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance y'all.

Congrats! Definitely change the brake fluid as it's recommend to change it every 2 years.

Brake fluid and coolant. Can't think of much else at that mileage. If it's not leaking and the suspension feels right, follow a normal maintenance schedule.

Nice gem you have.
I would check the date on the tires. Even if they were inflated and look good, they may not be safe to drive on.

Yeah aside from what other have said already with respect to fluids I would just drive it. The proactive replace it mindset can be a slippery slope if you fall into that trap.

I bought my 08 E92 a year ago with only 18K miles (fluids were 11 years old at the time) and for the piece of mind, I wanted to start with a clean slate, so I did all the fluids. And your fluids are 13 years old

Brakes
Power steering
transmission
differential
coolant
Oil

And are you still on the original Run Flats? Mine still had 08 date codes and they looked great, lots of tread left. But industry standard rule of thumb was 6-10 year life. So those were replaced too (with non RFT's thankfully)

Thanks for the helpful insight. I'll go ahead and take care of the fluid service soon. I took a look at the DOT codes on the tires and they are 2017 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, so I think I should be ok on that end. Found the invoices and the tires were replaced every 4 years or so.

Drive belts + tensioner in addition to everything else stated above. If they’re original, they’re 12 yrs old. Rubber degrades with time, not only mileage.

Change the engine oil and filter on an annual basis. Brake fluid is every 24 months from the build date (found on the drivers door jamb). I'd just test the coolant with a hydrometer. The rubber used in the belt is long life. I'd bet yours is fine. Just check it's position on the tensioner pulley.

Diff and trans is 100,000 miles. 30,000 miles over that time is not under driven.

Thanks for the thorough input. Based on service records the brakes were bled just over two years ago. Looks like my father followed all maintenance by the book.

I made a mistake in my judgement of the age of the tires by only looking at the rear tires. The rears are 2017's but the front tires were manufactured in 2012... 8 years seems to be about time to change them. I think it's probably in my best interest in regards to safety to install new front tires.
