E90 LCI Halogen to Xenon headlamps
Hi all,
Hoping some expert can help me out here. I have a E90 LCI and managed to source Xenon headlamps off another E90 LCI. Is it just a straight swap? Or do I need a new FRM module too? I take it there will be some coding involved either way? Cheers |

It's a big job to do it correct, new frm3xe needed, suspension sensors, retrofit wiring for level sensors to headlight to frm, washers for m.o.t, and code everything done it myself and it's worth the end result there's a bmw guide on the net that gives step by steps

Hmm might give it a miss then seems too much hassle, considering I'll only keep this car for another year or maybe two no point I believe they are used for the high beams |

Are they not bixenon? Main beam uses the bixenon shutter doesn't it? On my pre lci conversion, the halogen inners are solely used for flash to pass.
Again, headlight washers not required for the mot! |

I have an F10 with xenons & that seems to use the outer lights for everything, low beam, high beam & flash, it looks to me like the inner lights are purely for decoration on a standard xenon setup.

True for the f series I think. Although on the e series the inners are still used. Adaptive xenons use the inners when indicating.

I'm sure i've seen a coding option to use both the Xenon high beam and Halogen main beam simultaneously. I quick check of my notes shows it as "PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON" but i've not tried it yet to see what it actually does.
On my car (Pre-LCI E90) The Xenon projector does high beam if you latch it on, and it uses the halogens if you "Flash" the main beam. |

F10 has adaptive xenons on pre-LCI where inner light comes on when you are cornering at low speed or turning into another road. It should be same on LCI though. On LCI E9x, there are two type of xenons. - Non adaptive xenons (inner glass is lens) and does nothing - Adaptive xenons (inner glass is whitish and comes on when you are turning your car) On pre-LCI, you can code xenons to work as bi-xenon.

Switch you headlights into different modes and dash round the front to see which lights are lit, I only ever see the outer lenses lit therefore I guess they must be standard xenons.

I know its a requirement to have headlight washers with Xenons but they are not essential really if you retrofit.
If you have them present and they do 'Not' work, its an MOT failure. However if you don't have any present, then they cant test them to fail them, if that makes sense. |

They aren't going to waste their time using the wash wipe multiple times to try and get them to work.

I have lci halogen and I want to upgrade to the xenon projectors. I would rather go with oem other than depo. It's this easier than doing it with a pre lci?
