CPO Transfer
I hope this is the right section....
I tried to search but could not find any information on what happens when selling a CPO 3'er to a private party buyer. I believe the extended warranty is transferable to another buyer with a nominal fee, but my question is does my car have to be back to factory conditions (as in not modded) prior to selling it to another private party? For example, I noticed a lot of people try to get the 189 wheels back when prepping for a sale. Perhaps that's for a lease return though? |

CPO warranty is transferrable to a new owner. Mods can, of course, affect CPO warranty. It is at dealer's discretion.
On bmwusa.com under owner's circle section new owner can just update information or just send it a little card that comes with CPO paperwork, so BMW can update new owner information. |

When you mention "dealer's discretion" does this mean there is some sort of inspection by BMW to my car prior to transferring the CPO to another owner?
I appreciate your feedback |

No, there is no inspection. If you are selling the CPO car, you just sell it. CPO is already with the car. It follows the car.
I happen to have a CPO 335i for sale right now. If you wanted to buy my car, a simple check of the VIN# would tell you if the car is CPO or not. Dealer could tell you the same thing by checking FOB. If my car was modded and you needed warranty done on the car it would depend on the individual dealer whether or not they would cover it. If dealer felt like mods are affecting lubricating parts that are covered under CPO warranty, you may have your warranty denied. Hence, in buying a CPO car it is desirable to buy an unmodified vehicle as there are more chances your warranty will be honored. |
