Mod 127 - BMW Performance Short Shifter Kit with VTL Shifter Carrier Mod

Lucky enough to pick up a genuine BMW SSK from Peter Y when he parted out his car (RIP)

Vince modified the shifter carrier to get rid of the slack in the gear stick and finished the install yesterday

Is a huge difference in the way the gear changes feel between the SSK and stock

The gear changes are short, clean and very notchy
Zero play in the gear stick as well

With the mods to the shifter carrier, gear stick should stay rock solid

Very happy with the result

Mod 128 - Sound Treatment

Mentioned this mod a page or two ago, so I wont go over old ground

Made a start on this over the weekend
Managed to get one wiring harness done (win)

To be fair I spent most to the time doing DIY videos to help out anyone else you wants to have a go at this as well
Putting all the vids on my YouTube Channel (SocketSocket) and will add to the playlist as the project progresses

Thanks Shannon, nice to have another subscriber
That means my subscriber base is now you, some rando in india and my mum hahaa

Tbh there's more work in doing the vids then the actual mod
But there isn't much on this topic for the E9x

The vids might also come in handy as general DIYs for how to take out door cards, headliners and stuff, so hopefully they will help someone out, even if they aren't doing a audio upgrade

Thanks mate

Doing a full series of these as I work through the project

Did one yesterday on "how to remove the battery"

Might come in handy seeing BMW designed this to be as difficult as possible lol

Started sound treating the boot today

Seriously underestimated how long this will take

That said am going a bit OTT, covering as much as I can

Sound dampener applied to half of the boot, hope to finish the other half tomorrow.

Then need to apply the acoustic layer, wrap wiring and reinstall everything.

I don't think Ill get it all done in a day

Pics below

Pic 1 - Tools and materials to do the sound dampening
Pic 2 - Covering this part was a pinta
Pic 3 - Everything in here is curved
Pic 4 - Lucky I have tracing material to mark where to cut
Pic 5 - See..... perfect fit !!
Pic 6 - Floor pan done (phew)
Pic 7 - This is probably overkill
Pic 8 - End of day 1

Three and a half days and 39 sheets later.... finally finished applying the sound dampening in the boot

Got the back seats out and the rear passenger area stripped, so I can run the dampening into the cabin area

Definitely one of the most time consuming projects to date

Pic 2 - View from rear seats to back to boot
Pic 3 - Door cards and vapor seal removed
Pic 4 - Rear passenger area stripped out

You are certainly a very keen and patient person Socks. I am sure you would have been wearing your face mask while you did all of this work.

Installing mass loaded vinyl layer on wheel arches

Doesn't look pretty but should keep the road noise from the rear tires out of the cabin

Finally finished sound treating the boot area and got everything reinstalled

Every inch of the boot area has been sound dampened (butyl layer) and treated with sound blocking materials, including re wrapping every wire and harness in tesa tape and foam

The boot took 13 days to do (104 hours to be exact) and I still have the main cabin, doors and head liner to do

This project is turning out to be the most time intensive mod to date
