The billet housing comes with the helix from spool when you purchase. I have the 3x and the 10 micron filter. Definately interested in the holding bracket. Who is the tuner trying to tune out the cold start rattle? The cold start rattle lasts about 2 minutes on my car on a cold cold start. After warm up it rattles on every startup for about 10 seconds then goes away. It makes your car sound like its falling apart on startup, besides that I like it.

My tuner is Steven @ wedge and he will try to do tables for helix chattering fix after holiday.
Once he is done I'm sure Ken will be able to do the same for n54.

So basically valet parking your car can be embarrassing with the rattle?

Spool said the support brackets should be in stock in about 2 weeks. Waiting to order the 3x until this is released with it.

I'd like to see a 2x overdrive instead of a 3x. 3x seems like it's pushing the limits of the injectors. Yes I know they said it's not but it would be nice have the option.

Had a back and forth convo with spool on insta. I mentioned the rattle issue and cracked housing issues we've been discussing and they mentioned they have the tune / data to remove the rattle you just have to reach out and they'll send it to your tuner. The other issue with the hairline fractures on the vacuum housing happens 1 out 200 HOD's they've sold however, they include the billet hardware now with the purchase.

They also mentioned the support bracket is for those who want additional assurance.

Some other fun facts they informed me of is the HOD by itself with out the Micron filter will support up to 550whp. They said DO NOT remove the stock filter in the stock hpfp or risk damaging your injectors.

So I pressed the button and I should have mine in about a week! Can't wait

Some other rumors we might be able to put to rest.

Below is the convo I had with the Spool team and I will be reporting back with my experience after the install and some seat time with the new setup.

Question:
HOD stresses injectors? Injectors have a high and low mode for voltage and with rail pressure always requesting that the injectors are in high mode. Injector failure could happen prematurely.

Response from Spool:
Your tuner can adjust for that and Spool is willing to provide the data for the tune. Also those are rumors that have been spread as there are no findings in Spools research or reported by actual users of the product.

Question:
Rattling of the hardware at start up happens for a few minutes?

Response from Spool:
True however, it's since been addressed and Spool can provide the data to tune that out.

Question:
The billet housing is an extra purchase?

Response from Spool:
It is not, and it is part of the purchase. For those who did not receive it an upgraded billet housing one will be sent to them.

Question:
The billet housing upgrade is due to stress cracks caused by the HOD hardware?

Response from Spool:
Cannot not confirm or deny however, they are providing it as an extra precaution as they are receiving reports that 1 in 200 installs have experienced the stress fracture. They suspect out of those numbers some are due to user error during install. Possibly not tightening bolts correctly. Regardless, the housing upgrade is included with the hardware.

Question:
The vibration is also contributing the stress fracturing and we also need to purchase the reinforcement bracket/ stabilizer / brace?

Response from Spool:
The vibrations are not causing the fracture and no additional purchase is necessary. We are including the reinforcement bracket as part of the setup and as part purchase. For those who do not have one, one will be sent to them.

Question:
Is the Micron hardware required?

Response from Spool:
No, the Micron filter hardware will allow for additional fuel flow. Without it you can use the stock filter in the stock hpfp. Do not remove the stock filter if you don't upgrade as damage will occur to your stock injectors if you incur bad fuel. The HOD with nothing else should yield up to 550whp. For higher application you'll need the Micron filter upgrade.

Question:
Does the sun dial require lubrication?

Response from Spool:
No the unit is sealed with lifetime grease.

Again this is the conversation I've had with the Spool team and will be reporting back soon with dyno and experiences. I'll also record an install demo for the F10 N55.

Let me know if you guys have other things we should know and I'll try to get them answered.

Here we go...

The vacuum plate cover cracking is very common. That has nothing to do with the actually vacuum pump casing, which we have seen one case of it cracking so far.

Removing hpfp inlet filter seems to be fine.

The shotgun setup has been around longer and they remove the inlet filter and drill out the inlet of the fuel rail.

I've recently seen one of the seals fail on the overdrive pump.

I personally would always be nervous about running the risk of no filter. Glad to hear there's been no reports of damage to injectors without a filter. Still very risky. Spool is saying with the stock filter it's good for 550whp which should be good for most people. I know, I know I'll probably get the bug up my arse to want more power.

Now drilling out the fuel line of high interest to me as the fuel line is not as pricey to replace if I fudge it up.

When you say the seal on the HOD, are you saying a seal internally failed? Or are you talking about the seal that comes off the stock hpfp thats moved over to the HOD to prevent oil from seeping out?

Thanks for updates!

Any updates on how this is holding up for any of you that are using the bracket and/or the aluminum casing that is provided by spool?

So far I have not ran into any issues with running the overdrive for a few months. The rattling is very apparent on a cold start but it does go away after it has warmed up. The rattling also comes and goes when you are at a stop light for a few seconds. I personally don't mind it too much as long as it is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Since I have plenty of headroom running on a e50 mix, I will be trying out full e85 shortly to see how my fuel system handles it shortly.

Thanks. looks like she is running pretty good. I see your rail pressure diving in the top end. Is it misfiring there? hard to do on the street but have you gone through 4th gear as well?
