A/T fluid and TQ Converter.

I've wondered.

#1 Is there a check valve which prevents the fluid from the TQ draining out once the pan is dropped?

#2a If "YES" then wouldn't adding fluid just just mix it with the 'old' in the TQ converter?

#2b If "NO", then how do they fill the TQ with fluid???

the tq drives the trans pump, so fluid is constantly being exchanged in it, thats why they stared doing power flushes so you can get the old fluid out of the tq, some cars have a drain plug in the tq and an inspection plate on the bellhousing so you can pull the inspection plate and drain the tq if you needed to.

i know guys who take their trans cooler lines off the cooler, and run the car for a minute or two to get the fluid out of the tq, but i dont recomend that because you run the risk of burning your trans pump out if you run it dry too long

I did that with my Jeep wagoneer years ago (transmission flush IIRC) but I didn't think that was an option for our BMW's.

I am very interested in this as well, because I can't find info on it anywhere.

Might warrant a call to the service dept. at the dealer to find out.
