so there's not actually tread noise at 50-55, that's a driveshaft noise that I'm going to investigate this weekend.

I just never noticed it with the winter tires on because they were mud tire noisy.

Have taken the car to mexico a number of times now.
Still have not found the limits of grip.
Have gone a lot faster into turns I know than I am comfortable with. like, terrifyingly fast for a 3800 lb station wagon.

lighter wheels/tires definitely improved the acceleration. now dipping into the actual 6.7s.
I need to go hit the test and tune after the drag strip opens to get real numbers.

mounted for 3 weeks.

used wheel cleaner at car wash. mistake. doesn't agree with raw aluminum.

so polish wheels ad clean tires for two hours.



le sigh.



the bolts are slowly coming back to their pre oiled color.




but are showing no signs of any further weathering or oxidation.

do polished aluminum the internet said, it will be awesome it said.

it is awesome.
but it also sucks.

finally got to chalking these properly.

36/38 f/r tire pressures is right.
feels right.
looks right.

this is mostly a note to myself for when i forget next month.

so far I'm pretty pleased.

especially for the money. at this cost I could put tires on it every spring and not really care.

well, it's warmer again.

this wheel had two cv boots worth of grease in it.
the paint/ceramic coating held up alright and it wasn't so bad to clean with just dawn and water in a spray bottle.

clean up the rest and a light polish and on the car they go.

some random from amazon joint that my brother gave me.

I saw the box a while ago. I need to find it again.

I'm not sure how effective it was/wasn't.
I'm just glad the paint stayed stuck.

and a longer term tire review.

They make a little noise at 55-57 under light cruising throttle.
i measured tread across the whole carcass and they appear to be wearing evenly and I've lost about 3/32 of tread from new. They all measure 7/32's currently.

so another year of use for sure.
maybe three seasons out of them. Which would be pretty swell.

so seeing as it took me an hour to polish out the water spots on that one lip.

I ordered metal sealant today. We'll see how that goes.

otherwise I have to polish these things every month because whenever it rains they turn nasty looking.
and the brake dust is doing the raw aluminum no favors either.

Once you have polished raw aluminum wheels, you're gonna need a rainy day car.

audi plastic lug bolt caps have fixed the issue of keeping bolts looking nice.
$6 on ebay.
the removal tool sucks. it's gonna be a problem.
I'll probably use c clip pliers to pull them.

My lazy ass gets lethargic when I even thinking about bending and cleaning my wheels! Maybe that'll change when I get some new ones

Are the caps really snug fit?

I'm on the fence. Not sure if i should just paint my bolts or get the caps.

buy the caps.

they won't come off.

The plastic tool works when they're on the car. I had them off to re torque in just a few seconds a piece.

They were like 6 bucks on the ebay.

paint lasted approximately 10 seconds on the lug bolts, even without using the dak dak.

Sooo will you be doing these yourself again?

At least have them sand blasted for the sake of your joints.

btw, those wheel bolt covers don't come with a cover for a lock bolt.

of course, why wouldn't I?


It's not going to be the odyssey these were, just a quick sand and paint job with some duplicolor wheel paint in a rattle can.


It's not something I thought of because I've never run wheel locks.
