Same here... Thankfully I checked before I had to bring it into the dealership! And that riverside rear bolt is a PITA!

My car not only threw a code/SES light at 100% it went into limp mode. I have the new version of the JBD too, Terry claimed the new version eliminated SES lights... Not so...

90% - limp mode, but it cleared itself after shutdown and restart (new chip too).

Anybody clear the shadow codes, leave the unit intact and bring in for annual service? Seems like a pain to remove the engine cover, undo all the zip ties and replace it...

I cleared codes just this past Monday before I went in for my first oil change. No shadow codes, just a fuel pressure fault code as a result of going into limp mode when I was running at 100%. It is a kind of a PIA esp since the frick'n engine cover is attached with allen bolts, one of which is a little difficult to access. Why couldn't BMW make it as easy as the x5d? I will tell you that the little white clip that you remove from the fuel pump connector so you can plug in the JBD is very fragile and I don't see it lasting through many disconnects and reconnects. Would like to get my hands on a few extra.

FWIW, if your car went into limp mode the code is stored, it doesn't clear itself. Hook up your BT cable and clear it before your next dealer visit.

Hey all.. first time poster, and first time BMW owner..

I just got the JBD box in the mail and plan to install it this weekend. Any tips/precautions I need to know? I've done a ton of research, so I believe i'm ready to take the plunge I'm conservative, so i'll start with the default setting. I'd also like to get a few runs in using the android app 'torque', and compare after the install.

This forum is a wealth of info, thanks for everything so far.

I want to feel the power of a JBD, not that i need it since my Bimmer is already fast enough but I can't see the effects of the JBD being great for my car...

Start at the default setting and leave it there for a week or two and slowly turn it up over the next couple of weeks. If you go to 100% you will likely at some point experience an SES light/limp mode. Last but not least, make sure you remove it and clear codes before taking your car into the dealer for service. Other than that, enjoy.

If you're coming down for bimmberfest you can go for a spin in my car before I leave. Weather is looking iffy though, so if it's pouring I won't be there.

You folks with JBD-- does your DPF regenerate more frequently now?

I have been running it at around 85% for the past few week and today i chose to run it at 90 and the power is noticeable but i the check engine light kick in right away and i was driving a tank after that. so anything over 85% is bad for my car. This is also the newer JBD to i guess cause i only ordered about 3 week ago. car has about 1500 may that be the problem why i cant run it any higher then 85%.

I dont think there is anything different in the newer version and older one. Some of the guys are saying there something in the tune that isnt suppose to trigger a code but for fuel economy i cant tell because all the miles on the car have been highway miles and i was getting 540 to a tank and notices a big different since i been here in NC compare to NY where it is higher and most of the driving is down on city street with an avg of 25MPG and Very high outside Temp of 95 or more.

The adjustment range is just to allow for car to car variance. Most cars will throw a tuner code / check engine light somewhere between 70-100%, which is why the default is 65%.

Mike,

When you say car variance, is that a static variable? ie: if my car can't handle 100% currently, could it change if i 'ease' up the percentage over a period of time? or is it pretty much, "if your car can't handle 90%, it never will"..

Thanks,
-sz

ps. Smile on my face hasn't left since installation

I wouldn't mind if it were just an SES light, but it sucks when the car goes into limp mode, which is what happened to me on the way to Bimmerfest running the JBD at about 90%.

There is no difference. The newer version is just an updated firmware, which at the time it came out the claim was it was to eliminate triggering SES lights even at 100%, not so...
