Large Peace of Mind Service...Assistance & Advice Needed Please

My 335i is at 69k and I thought It was time to do a big service for my own peace of mind.

I want to get an idea of what you believe is needed and what is a waste of time.

As much detail on each point is much appreciated.

MANY THANKS!!!

I am looking for rough costs on both labour and parts, best places to purchase the items/fluids, and brands I should be looking at/avoiding...

-Cost of Labour for installing front brake discs, pads, lines and fluid flush. (I will supply all parts, still deciding...)

-Labour for oil and filter change (where is a decent place for oil and should I run a BMW filter? Or are euro car part filters fine?

-Full coolant flush (should I run bmw coolant and distilled water?)

-Spark plugs labour costs (how much should 6 for my 335i cost)

-Power Steering Fluid Change (Is this necessary)?

-Transmission flush (without filter change, will do it in 20k)

-Rear Diff flush

-Re-oil existing filters

-Replace my front upper control arm bushes

------Should I do my fuel filter?

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU BELIEVE I AM MISSING???

To do it all at one place I'd reckon you could get it done for between £300 - £500.

-Cost of Labour for installing front brake discs, pads, lines and fluid flush. (I will supply all parts, still deciding...) £200

-Labour for oil and filter change (where is a decent place for oil and should I run a BMW filter? Or are euro car part filters fine? Can do this yourself or I'm sure a memebr close to you will volunteer. Oil filter I'd get from BMW for peace of mind. They are only about £18 if I remember correctly. Opie oils on the net. Ebay for castrol LL04...its where I get my oil from.

-Full coolant flush (should I run bmw coolant and distilled water?) YES!!!...BMW reckon all other coolants cause blockages

-Spark plugs labour costs (how much should 6 for my 335i cost) £100

-Power Steering Fluid Change (Is this necessary)? Don't know tbh

-Transmission flush (without filter change, will do it in 20k)

-Rear Diff flush

-Re-oil existing filters

-Replace my front upper control arm bushes You may have to do your droplinks and anti roll bar bushes as well! Once the suspension is dropped you'll know either way

------Should I do my fuel filter?

90k is a bit long to leave it for your transmission fluid change if you want piece of mind later on.

You got a manual or auto? Manual change won't be nearly as expensive as an auto change.

I had my power steering fluid changed, £50 at a specialist, worth doing at your mileage I reckon.

Have you done yours yet mate?
I was going to do the tranny fluid, but leave the filter and sump till a little later. Maybe another 10k

I am running an auto

I will see what I get quoted, but I am considering giving it all a go myself...

Thanks for chiming in

I recently had my manual transmission done at 60k. Not a bad time to do it from what I was told. You just don't want to be leaving it until 100k like BMW say.

I also had my Diff oil done

Brake fluid

Coolant flush

and power steering like I mentioned before.

I would assume the oils and fluids would be the same in our cars apart from the transmission oil?
If so then I can give you a list of the oils etc that they used if you want.

wow, quite a lot to do.

I would get it all dfone at Darren Woods... save up a bit on the London prices! But then again, its about 3/4 hours to get there! At least you know your car is in safe hands though.

gie0320 on EvoTechnik can offer advice or assistance if you want to get this work done yourself.

BWchiptune can do you the service relatively cheaply if you want it done for you by a proper garage

No problem man.

Labour charges came to £250. That included fitting 4 new tyres as well though I think.

Brake fluid and Coolant wasn't specified by brand, but it should be BMW fluids for both.

£25 for the anti freeze and £16 for the Dot 4 brake fluid.

Power steering fluid wasn't specified by brand either, only the type.
CHF11S power steering fluid. £23

For the diff oil, Castrol Synchro X 75W-90 was used which I don't think exists under that name now. It would be a Castrol 75W-90 oil for non limited slip differentials. I think some people over in the US use 75W-140 but their cars run a lot hotter in their climate. It's up to you on that one really.
Cost on the diff oil was £26

Castrol Syntrans 75W Manual gearbox oil was used for my transmission for anyone else that may be interested. £36

All prices exclude VAT.

Maybe around the £450 mark for parts & labour with VAT.

Valve cleaning will need to be done soon I think. But I just want to refresh these areas firt and see how she's running

Vacuum lines... Really necessary?

I may have my valve cover gasket done t the sme time as my oil filter gasket.
Thanks for the reminder

What is a Ron beck pcv mate?

Oil catch can is definitely not necessary for me I don't think. I know a few who have them and there is never any oil being caught

Rob Beck PCV -
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15382

I catch a lot of oil, it would otherwise be going on to the valves..

Vacuum lines - replace them or wait for a leak. I spent a fair bit of money trying to solve issues caused by vacuum leaks. For the miniscule cost (£15) just not worth waiting in my view.

The rob beck pcv looks like a great idea.

How was the install? Was it really a few minutes? Something you can easily do yourself?

Has it not slowed how much oil escapes?
It looked like people received mixed opinions saying they were drinking more oil with an OCC than without...

I will take your advice and change the vacuum lines. Only sensible considering the tuning taking place this year at some point.

Get bw to do as much as you are paying for - as their labour will be very favourable for you as an EvoTechnik member and Jason is legitimately the best person I've ever done car related business with. The amount he goes out the way to help people is unrivalled. Nice workshop too.
