Armrest USB only sending power sometimes - Tunai Firefly BT issue

This is a weird one... my friend has the same Tunai Firefly unit in his e82. His powers on and connects immediately to his phone upon every startup.

My Tunai unit only powers on about half the time at startup, so I have to open the arm rest and unplug it/plug it back in 5-6 times (sometimes more over the course of 2-3 minutes) to get it to light up/power on. Here is the unit I have:

https://www.amazon.com/TUNAI-Firefly.../dp/B01HDO66NK

Not sure where to start...dirty USB port? Replace Tunai unit? Replace USB port altogether? Anyone else experience USB sending power only sometimes?

Thanks

Did you do any troubleshooting? Do other usb devices work? Do they disconnect randomly?

If the usb port is working for everything else consistently the issue most likely lies within the device. If the issues persist when other devices are plugged in then its the usb port

So I think it's the USB. I removed the firefly and tried charging the phone with a USB cable and the phone would only recognize the charging cable sometimes.

I'm gonna blow some compressed air in the USB slot but if that doesn't work should I replace the center console/USB unit?

I had a similar issue with the port only working intermittently. Eventually the USB port stopped functioning altogether. You can easily replace the port with a new one. I did just that and it's been flawless since. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...00#84109237653 Part #4 or #5, depending on your connections and VIN.
