What if you are out of warranty (say car is at 60K miles). Would anyone still under warranty want to trade their good piece for a bad piece and since your car is still under warranty, you can bring in the car and get it swap out (I just wanted to throw that out for those who are out of warranty and want to screw over BMWNA).

I have 60K miles on my car btw and it still runs great (knock on wood)

On my 2005 E90, all door handles are peeling, scratches on sport seats side bolsters, pealing trim on center arm rest.

All these will be fixed by the dealer. It is very common on 3-series so much that they have a dedicated sub-contractor that fixes trim issues.

just talked with the assistant service manager at Gwinnett Place (United) BMW in Duluth, GA and was denied replacement or repair for ridiculously horrible peeling on drivers side front door handle and passenger door handle (car still under original factory warranty). He says if these other dealerships are replacing these parts then they are eating the cost.

im pissed.

what gives?

I have an 06 330i btw.

the trim around the front driver's side door handle is the worst.

Here's a reply from BMWNA:

Dear Mr. Schneider:

Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2006 BMW 330i. We appreciate your inquiry.

Your BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover wear and tear of soft trim items such as door handles. I am sorry if this is disappointing information. Unfortunately, I could not access the link you sent.

If your BMW service center chooses to offer assistance on this repair, they do so at their own discretion. Because your vehicle has exceeded the warranty parameters, BMW of North America, LLC cannot offer assistance in this case.

We value our customers and are sorry if we were unable to meet your expectations. If you have any further questions, please respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for contacting BMW.

Sincerely,

Try another dealer if you're still under the warranty.

I brought my 06 325i in for driver side pull handle peeling and my SA took care of it without fuss. I even offered him the TSB number, he said he didn't need it. My only concern now is that the replaced part seems to be out of the first stock (i.e. painted over plastic) rather than the new units (molded in color) so it might crop up again sometime down the road.

I had peeling on both my drivers side handle and on my steering wheel. Dealer fixed the door handle today no questions asked and ordered the steering wheel trim for me. SA told me it happens all the time on X5's as well.

I have the black interior and have the same problem on my driver side door. I find my self picking at it because it drives me nuts too. I'll be taking it in for that and to see if they can get my same side mirror replaced due to memory loss.

Just got my drivers door window switch panel replaced due to peeling at only 28,000 miles. To be fair I used it a lot for my cell phone. Got my car back and now I have a leather drivers door armrest (my car is black leatherette) and my drivers door speaker doesnt work

But yes they will replace it for free under warranty regardless of interior color. If one dealer says no take it to another one.

Kevin, how can you tell if your armrest is leather?

Also be sure to ask your SA for the upgraded part i.e. the parts molded in color rather than painted.

how can you tell hte difference?? i mean dont they look pretty much the same? i understand that the molded one will last and the painted one will just scratch up, but i just want to know that i get the right one.

Well besides the obvious diference in how it feels (leather is much softer than leatherette) theres also stitching on the leather armrest vs. no stitching on the leatherette armrest (pictures below).

Leather (notice the line of stitching right above the trim):

Leatherette (no stitching on the armrest, also slightly less "boxier" shape that rounds off):

Still trying to get the problem fixed, the sound system doesnt sound so great without one of the speakers....

My car has only 14K miles and the interior is peeling. My car is an 06 325i. My Subaru is an 04 and does not have this issues. The BMW is a much more expensive car but the quality especially on the interior has gone down.

I spoke to the dealer and they said BMW has no recall on this and the best they can do is replace the trims before the warranty expires. I work at another delaership and we took in an 06 for trade and it has 32K miles nad the interior looks really crappy because of all the peeling and trim falling apart.

My question is after the warranty expires then it peels again then what do we do?

I am tempted to sell my car.

What they are suggesting is a temporary fix only

The article posted above (http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B511806g.htm) refers to "Repair Instruction RA 51 41 017" which I believe more accurately reflects what I am experiencing... does anyone know how I can find the details of that Repair Instruction (link?)

Thanks

Just recently took my car into the dealer for all of my passenger door handles and center console peeling. I contacted BMW and they spoke to the service manager and they agreed to cover it and eat the cost. Some buy came out and repainted the arms. Better than nothing but there has to be a better solution. I also have a 2 year warranty should they peel. Only time will tell. Good luck!

BMW called me to ask if the dealer was going to fix the peeling or not since my care is out of warranty. I explained that they did but it was a repair and not a replacement. I had mentioned that it would probably peel again and the only other option was to replace the door. I also mentioned that there was A TSB for this and the newer cast door handles don't have this problem and he just kinda mentioned he doesn't really get into the TSBs and the fix. He mentioned that if I had issues down the road to call him and they would look into it then. I got the run around.
