Getting wheels shipped from USA to Australia?

I'm looking to ship a set of wheel from the US to Australia. The cost I got quoted for a set of 4 boxes shipped through FedEx was $950!

Is there a more manageable way to ship these? Has anyone heard or have had experience?

Thanks

950 seems very expressive. Maybe ask a supporting vendor that usually ships to Australia and see who they use. I know pyspeed used UPS when they shipped to me.

That's because you are shipping via air. When shipping large packages international it is best to ship by boat, yes it will take longer but at a fraction of the cost.

I didn't see an option to ship via ship. Maybe FexEx doesn't support it. Any idea how I can look into this option? Maybe a different carrier?

Thanks

I don't mess with USPS, FEDEX, or UPS for that.. A travel agency might be able to do it. There are two Polish agencies near me that do shipping so if I need something heavy shipped international I use them.

Internationally, USPS is the cheapest. They should have a parcel option that isn't air so it's a lot cheaper. A long time ago when I ran a business, we'd always use USPS for international stuff unless the customer specifically requested another option.

I believe they do but you have to ask. Normally they will just give you air shipping rates.

Yeah, you can't get the quote online which is irritating. We always had to go in and get a rate at the counter. It made estimating shipping costs rather annoying since we were never sure what the final amount would be.

The website only makes mention of priority mail options which is airmail so it's expensive. But the counter should give you all options. It's annoying since you'd have to make a trip just to get a quote.

I haven't shipped via USPS but the place I ship with will give me a quote over the phone as long as I can provide the weight and the measurements of the pack. I'm sure the post office can do it too, unless they are really fucking lazy.

It depends what FedEx service you're getting.
For that price, its most likely the 3-5 day delivery.

You could try priceusa.com.au, they will arrange shipping via sea, just looked and a 175 pound package is us350. If you don't know them they are a service that buys the goods and ships them to you.

Hmm I'm guessing shipping to Sydney might be cheaper as most items arrive here first?

Ahh try sending each wheel separately ? That's what ECS did, I recieved 4 tracking numbers with one master tracking number and they all came together. FedEx Economy is extremely quick to Australia. My order was sent out and I received it 1 week later ( 5 business days )

I also believe businesses have an arrangement they make versus a consumer trying to ship at his own cost and arrangement.
