I did the e30 perch as well as replaced the Top strut bushing, and no diffrence in height. So I doubt for me that a bottom spring pad will change anything

You don't have measurements confirm this. Visually your e90 looks higher in the front. Wheels no longer tuck in.

I can confirm, it doesn't look a whole lot taller. Also, the spring pad I changed is the upper one. 12mm of ride height is not much visually. I'll post photos in a second

Spacer thickness I had under the strut tab, so subtract that from the overall height gained. Before e30 pads and top hat just under 22" 3/4 After spacer was removed, top hat at spring pad installed. Just under 23" 1/4. 1/2 inch on the nuts. Spacer removed was 3/8 thick, pad added was 9mm which is just under 3/8. Once again, visually it hardly looks different. I still have hardly a finger gap, but these springs sat me tucked almost 2 fingers over the tire without spacers or these mods. Note that these measurements were from the edge of the wheel, both taken in the same place completely level. Sorry about the measurement being inches also, but you can see that without the strut being raised up, I would have gained 3/4 of an inch minimum from the mod. All that extra travel really makes it ride and handle so much better. 3/4 is a lot considering the struts fully extended are about 3" travel Last edited by YoungBlood; 07-16-2017 at 01:47 PM.. |

Perhaps you can post info on the spacer to raise the front struts. I assume a lot of people will find that easier to do. |

It looks like he just shoved a piece of rubber underneath the strut tab only. Not sure that does much of anything as just leaving a bit of space there would probably accomplish the same goal. |

I had an abs spacer under the strut tab (not supporting anything, just there to make sure it was even side to side. This was installed previously because I had to raise my struts to save my tires/fenders until I could do this). I removed that and I used an oem 9mm e30 upper spring pad plus the e30 top hat. Here is a picture side by side of everything. I'll have to look up my order to get the part numbers, but I ordered it thru ecs, all oem pieces for $50, and used Mini Cooper front bump stops that are near identical to e36 m3 ones, but a third of the cost. Left/ black top hat is e30. You can see the much thicker spring pad paired with it in the photo.
I can confirm that the thicker spring pad will fit the oem top hat, I test fittted it. However, it requires the same labor to install that as the e30 top hat, so not easier, but it is a good solution for 7-8mm more height from the front. Last edited by YoungBlood; 07-26-2017 at 09:42 AM.. |

31331128522 9mm thick upper spring pad oem part #
31331128524 e30 spring perch/top hat oem part # Mini cooper front bump stops can be found pretty easily, mine were URO brand, ordered from rockauto, there is a thread on a different forum you can find with photos of the two, but they're the same as e36 m3 stops.

The BMW/MINI part number is 31306759455 if you are interested for an alternative to the E36 M3 bump stops (these are the exact same thing, just cheaper). $7 each from ECS.

Thanks for this post. I have a 2006 325xi that sits a little low and this will help me when I install new shocks. I will be using B4 bilsteins which are rated 10% stiffer, should work well on my car.

XDrive can't be too low unless suspension was modified. Being 12y old car l suggest you inspect first what previous owners has done to it. |
