When did you get your intake valves cleaned?
I currently have 45K miles on my car and to my knowledge it has never had it's valves cleaned.
I'm not having any issues right now but when is a good time to get it done? |

I just cleaned mine at 52k miles and they were filthy. We did my brothers at 80k miles and his were way worse(took about 50lb of walnuts to do the job on his car). Both cars ran way smoother afterwards. I'd definitely get it done before you roll over 50k, the longer you wait the worse the job is going to be.

No more than every 40k. Just had mine cleaned again for the third time after 40k miles and they looked like shit.

After 30K at the first signs of inconsistent idling, both times it was very well covered with carbon, so I figure being tuned and my driving style dictates an accelerated schedule.

There is, the autobahn for extended periods at 4500-6000 rpm in 6th.... that's actually why it was never discovered in initial validation testing.
Technically, if you want to drive at 6000 rpm for 30 mins or more on the freeway in a lower gear it should burn a lot of it out as well.

Hey those are pics of my valves. Thanks again Andrew! I'll definitely be cleaning them more often even though I had no problems pre-blast.

I have the BMS OCC on the high side and just put the RB external PCV valve and Mitsubishi OCC on the low side. We'll see if that cures the carbon build up on the valves long term.

I had mine done for the first time (I think) at 136k and it was literally a whole new car. It started different, idled different, accelerated different, and sounded different. Tons more power, and WAY smoother! I had my previous n54 done (not sure if for the first time) at 112k and noticed almost no difference. It had probably been done before although the shop showed pictures and it did need to be done.

Did mine for the first time at 130K miles. They definitely were way past due. Didn’t take that much media to get them clean though. Car was throwing all kinds of codes before. Runs like new again with no more codes.
