Damn squeaky brakes!!

I have searched and only heard about the problem but not how to fix this. My 2007 335i coupe's brakes squeak from 0-10 mph. But only when I leave a stop not come to a stop. This really kind of pisses me off b/c when I have my windows down it's very noticeable to me let alone anyone outside of the car. I'm not the type that cares what other people think but when you take really good care of your car and then your brakes squeak, I feel it "steals my thunder" I know that sounds lame but it's me. Anyway, does anyone know how to fix this problem short of taking the wheels off and cleaning the brake assembly?

So it happens when you accelerate? Could it be the brakes aren't releasing?

I have the same problems during acceleration while brakes are hot. I identified the noise from the rear brakes, and suspected a sticking rear pad.

After chamfering the rear pads, resolution was temporary and I still hear it to this day.

I aso brought it to dealer, who identified the issue, but could not find a solution.

Yeah I used to work at a dealership and I had one of the techs look at it and he was able to take apart the brake assembly and clean everything. That took care of it for a week, if that. If this is "normal" I think I know why BMW is going the way of every other performance car company and switching to brembos.

Take it to the dealer and call them liars. BMW of Bakersfield was nice enough to ID it and fix it. It came from my rear brakes, and he suspected that when the brakes got hot, one of the "sensors" in the pads or something that lets you vehicle know that your brake pads are wearing thin, gains contact with your disc. The sensor thing is metal, so when the brakes get hot, the sensor expands, therefore, squeeky noises. It probably goes like, squeek--squeek--squeek-squeek-squeek-squeeksqueeksqueek as you go fast right?

I had this problem. There is a really long thread about this, actually a VERY common problem in e9X chassis vehicles.

It's common in cars that do frequent stop any go driving (i.e. me in LA everyday).

Take it to the dealer, and tell them that it is not reproducible until the breaks heat up.

I had to take it to two dealers before the techs could get their thumbs out of their asses for long enough to sit in a car with me after I had reproduced it so they could not deny it was happening.

Rear brake pads replaced, problem gone.

Oh, and don't let them use the break sanding, shaving, or cleaning methods, they don't work. Pad replacement is the only way.

I tried to clean / shave and it did not work just like MonacoTT said. Replaced with OEM rear pads and squeak is gone

Dealer says it's the break sensors. No matter how much cleaning they do, the squeaking will come back. I think its BS that the BMW does not have a fix for this and the dealers just tell everyone that it's "normal". I don't know about everyone else, but unfixable squeaky breaks should not be normal for any car, especially if your paying 40K+ for it. The only real fix is to change the pads, but as you know if the pads aren't worn enough the dealers won't replace them under warranty. I really hope they address this issue. It's just not right.

I have the opposite problem, my brakes make this screeching rubber sound when coming to a stop below 15km/h. I thought maybe it was the tires so I checked the pressures and torque of the bolts, all good. It only started doing it this month so I'm waiting for when I bring my car in for brake fluid change and air filter next month. Really annoying though. I'm guessing anti-squeal paste should fix it, but it's under warranty so we'll see.

My car has 18K mi (29K km) and never had any noise from my brakes. Then, about a week ago, I had the issue described by the OP. When starting off from a stop, there was a slight squeak from what sounded like the right front wheel's brake pads, like they hadn't completely let go. I drive a MT, so I thought maybe it was the "hill assist" not fully disengaging on the front right.

I was going to take it in, but it went away after a couple of days. Maybe there was something on the rotor or caliper? We've had snow and salt on the roads, so maybe some corrosion? I thought it was weird that there was no sound when stopping, just when starting.

In any case, it's gone, so I'm not going to bother mentioning it to any SA unless it comes back.

It's not normal, they need to apply the compound to the back of the pads. It's not actually squeaking, which implies noise cause from rubbing friction, but noise from vibration.

It should be more accurately called a hum.

Anyway it's not normal, I just think they don't want to go through the trouble of taking your brakes off and applying the crap, especially since they can't really submit it for warranty work.

This is interesting because I started getting the noise as well. I have an e90 330i 6MT and it mostly happens when the weather is extremely humid and hot here in MD. I took it to the dealer and they did the cleaning. The sound went away for about a week and it came back. I took it to the dealer again and they said it was normal (just like all the other posts here).

The squeaking noise gets really annoying. I'm usually lax about these kinds of things but this noise is pretty loud when the sound bounces off of the car starting off next to you from the traffic light. I sometimes hear it even over my music.

This noise is also very hard to reproduce, and does not squeak when I go to the dealership (go figure).

I'm sure they won't just replace the brake pads if I ask them to. Any other suggestions?
