Trading in my 325Ci, is the stealership crazy?!
Trading in my 2003 325Ci in instead of going through the hassle of a private sale was appealing, until the dealer gave me a soft quote!
2003 325Ci with 34,000 km Jet Black on black (leatherette) manual transmission heated seats rain sensor sunroof iPod connectivity they offered $19,000! Dealers in Ontario are asking $28-34k for the same car, non-certified series and with a lot more miles (almost double in some cases). I should be able to get at least $27 ~ 31k in a private sale. What do you guy's think, am I out of my mind or is the dealer? |

problem with 2003 - it's the one with the biggest hit
it is a per-facelift, if you ordered a 2004, you get a hell of a lot more money BUT, you can always go to www.toyota.ca and use their black book to see how much you car is actually worth |

tyrewt, may I ask how much your car was new? Also don't forget you only pay the tax on the difference of your trade-in and the new car, so at $19,000 it would already be $2,660 worth of savings.

I got nearly $31k for my 2004 325iT last December. I don't remember my mileage, but I think it was around 32k kms. Wagons tend to hold their value a bit better but still your dealer seems to be really low-balling you.
That said, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the sticker place of similar cars at local dealers. When I traded in my wagon they had it on their lot a week later for $38k, but I'm sure they sold it for far less. Black Book values don't seem to bear a huge relationship to what things are actually sold for, but just in case, here is the Black Book wholesale value. Not too far from what the dealer is offering, but you should be able to do better. Year Make Model Series Body Style 2003 BMW 3 Series 325Ci 2D Coupe Based on the kilometers entered and the options selected, your vehicle's classification is appraised as: Clean. Depending on your vehicle's condition, the value may be appraised within the High and Low range. * less Reconditioning Costs Low: $20,180.00 High: $22,620.00

I don't recall exactly. But I did a bluebook search based on the credentials of the car and it was closer to $26,000. Regarding the tax on trade-in, I am aware. Thanks.

Yea, from the Toyota site. That would be really lame if it was publishing values lower than the actual black book, since the calculator is actually hosted on the Black Book site -- I think what's actually happening is it's indicating trade-in values (instead of private party sale or retail price). Which site was giving you $26k wholesale?
