Rotton Egg Smell

I have tried a search for this but no joy so apologises if this has been covered before.

This week the car has developed a rotten egg smell which I understand normally indicates that the cat has gone, could it be anything else?

The car did go in to BMW for the engine light about 3 months ago, a temp sensor was faulty and replaced under warranty.

Also it was MOT'd a couple of weeks ago, perhaps the emissions probe has damaged it?

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dawsey

Obvious answer is if it's still under warranty give it back to your $tealer to fix.

If it's run out then you've been very unlucky as it sounds like the catylitic converter that's causing the smell, but it could be a Lambda sensor that is the real problem but the cat is just giving off the smell because the mixture is wrong.

Have you noticed any difference in how it drives or sudden drop in fuel consumption or smoking etc ?

Sulphur dioxide can be more noticable on the cooler, damper mornings we're having this time of year

Definitely coming from the catalytic converter. Probably an engine management issue. Unburned fuel passing into the CAT.
