Urgent help required

Just had a blow out with rear tyre, I know most of the answers to these question are available on this forum somewhere - just haven't got time to search.

I want to change to NON RFT's - Falken 452's the way to go ?

Should I go oversize on the 19" 225 style alloys ? So from 225 / 255 to 235/265 ?

The car needs alignment as well, I'm not paying for a full KDS - what the next best thing and what type of alignment machine should I be looking for ?

Also best place to get tyres ? Delivery tomorrow / next day latest required.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all the help,

Just ordered 235/265 Falkens from Southall Discount Tyres £480 fitted.

Compared to Camskill £454 delivered but not fitted.

@ JLR your prices are about £100 out buddy but thanks for help.

So,

Tyres are sorted, need to get a full alignment without paying BMW KDS money - ideas anyone ?

EDIT: Wheels in Motion now booked.

Thanks peeps for your speedy responses.

hmm, get the RFT's off man- they are dangerous in my view.

This happened at 60! Luckily rear and I'd slowed down for speed cam. Alloy was toast.

you can see the tyre in the other pic. Its still there on the A3!

How did the blow out occur - did it happen where the wear is most pronounced on Bridgestone RFTs on the inside edge of the tyre leading to the tread coming away from the side wall? How much tread was left on the tyre - was it coming through almost to the canvas on the inside?

----

Direct from Falken can be cheap, but having looked its about the same as your Camskill quote.

Just to confirm, you guys have experienced blow-outs with RFT's?

Thought that was the whole benefit of the RFT that they didnt blow-out.
Had you received a puncture warning?
Are these examples from the same manufacturer?

I heard another rumour that "bridgestone were going to start paying out for failed RE050 RFTs" - but no substance.

There do seem to be real problems with the 19" 230/225 + RE050 RFT set up. I hoping my E91 (which has 225s and RE050s) will be OK until they're worn out and I can get some Falkens on.

Ok, Got new boots fitted today.

Also had full KDS @ Wheels in Motion (Thanks Kend !) Excellent service. had the tyres re balanced there as well as they mount the tyre to the balancer with the bolt holes rather than the hole behind the Center cap. The tyres were nearly 50 grams out per wheel.

Car drives lovely and straight now - also no bangs going over pot holes anymore.

I have used WIM for the last couple of cars and find that the attention to detail is great and that the end result is a very planted drive.

The benefit of RFTs is they can be driven carefully on when flat. full stop.

They are just as likely to 'blow out' or fail catastrophically at speed as any other comparable modern tyre folloiwng a major puncture or other failure.

Blow outs are very rare these days for RFT or non RFT.

Lo mate,

Cost to me was £95 + VAT for the KDS (depends what they adjust could be cheaper, minimum charge is £60+VAT), I would also suggest getting your wheels balanced as well which £6.50 a corner as they have a proper machine that balances the wheel off the bolt holes NOT the center cap hole.

Yes I booked in advance.
