Unhappy Got a puncture last night!

Fortunately I was only a few miles from home when the warning light came on.
The tyre still had pressure in it but there is no point getting it fixed as it’s seen it’s best and all four are now due for replacement.

I have tomorrow off work so will get them done then.

The problem is where I like to get my tyres from is a 30 mile drive down the motorway and after seeing peoples experience of driving any distance on run flats. I’m not too keen to travel that distance.

There is no one near me that can compete with this garage for price.

So my options are.

Find a non motorway route.

Call bmw assist and see if they will take the car to said garage.

Or take all four wheels off and put them in the mrs car.

I know where the jacking points on the car. What I would like to know is, where is the best place to place the axle stands?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry about the puncture... but you'll be fine driving on the RFT, just take it steady - mway is the best place, no turns or sudden movements. My missus drove her mini with a flat for 2 weeks before she mentioned there was a strange beeping noise in the car. Try BMW assist if you're still in warranty, they'll trailer you to the garage if you really don't want to risk it.

Are this garage really that good??? Will they have stock? most places need to order in overnight at least.

They'd have to be saving me well over £100 to bother with all that messing about taking 4 wheels off.

There's some great mobile outfits around, and they'll do good deals on prices...

www.event-tyres.co.uk are my favourite!

The quote I had last week were for fronts only and was £56 cheaper than my-tyres who have a fitting centre 3 miles away.

When they are open this morning I will give them a call and get a quote for all four.

Let us know the prices.....

The place I mentioned also do further discounts on sets of 4 (inc staggered sets).

Yesterday they quoted £560 for 4 off 18" staggered (225 / 255) eagle F1 Asymmetrics, or £600 for 4 conti sport 3's. (fitted wherever, balanced, disposal of carcases)

Not RFTs I know, but top end standard tyres.

a good idea to keep a small electric pump in the boot so you can reinflate it straight away, the warning light comes on with about 10lbs loss of pressure. means you can drive on without causing more damage to the tyre. buy a proper bmw jack £90

No Jefferies Tyres in Bromsgrove.

I take my car to Chemix in Halesowen for alignment.

They're budget tyres like the Falkens though, so you'd expect <£400 for them IMO.

Are you going for non-rfts??

Yes non rtfs.

They have performed well in an Evo tyre test. I think they came second overall but that was on a mkV gti.

I have the Vredesteins on my 19" alloys. Not totally convinced by them yet, but perhaps I haven't found the right pressures for them. The Goodyears F1s were great on my 18" alloys though.

Pressures for the 18" are 3.0 and 3.4 bar according to their tyre selector on their web site.

I was all set to get a set of Conti 3's, but then the tyre man threw in a curveball, saying the f1 assymetrics were £50 cheaper for the set.

Lots of good reviews on the f1's, but I'm still tempted to stick to the contis, which, according to their blurb, are designed especially for high powered rear wheel drive cars.

I think the 335i counts as one of those...

What's the grip of the Vredesteins like in the wet Will?

My Bridgestones are terrible.

They will be an improvement on the Bridgestones

I had some grip issues in the Lakes at the weekend, but that was mainly down to wet leaves.

Stick to the Contis - they work so well on our cars, why risk changing to something else for the sake of £50 ??

I hoped you might comment Tony, I wanted to stick with the contis as we've discussed before.

The £50 wasn't an issue, its hard to stick to your guns when even the tyre dealer is telling me I should buy something else!!

Conti 3's it is!

Another thumbs up for event tyres, they'll come to your door and carefully fit your new tyres (unlike some!).

In fact just ordering some from them today to replaced damaged tyres on our other car.

I did approximately 70 mileson the motorway at 60mph with no problem at all. it was only the warning light that showed anything was wrong.

I'm going to pump in up and drive there this morning.
