Talking Parrot ck3100 Backlight Mod Done..

Guys my latest mod invovles me changing the led's on my parrot hands free unit in my car... its a difficult one to do as the led's are the size of a full stop and harline thinckness. burned my fingers in the process but wanted the instruments lights to have the same conformity amber/red. Sorry i took the pictures with my crappy phone so they look kack but you get the idea. Parrot ck3100 owners know the backlight on the original units are light blueish. The pictures dont do the mod justice as its much brighter and more crisp enjoy...

Where did you get the amber LEDs from? Maplin? RS?

I've always found my Parrot kit to be too bright (i have my dash on min - would prefer total blackout like Saab type) so have turned it down the parrot.

Never thought of swapping out the LEDs for amber ones...
May do this when kit is taken out ready for new car (whenever I actually order it).

I got the led's from Germany, a friend of mine got them from a company similar to RS called Conrad. The other reason why I did this mod is because my original backlight led's were too dim and on their way out..

You can also put a dark amber, around 640nm, film over and get the same results.

Model shops sell it in A4 sheets.

You need to go almost red.

You need to get it around 640nm to get it to match, go higher and it just looks pink, go lower and it looks yellow.

I'd get the BMW bluetooth as advertised in their accessories catalogue (£90 +fitting I think). That way the callers numbers appears on your radio display.

Wish I'd known about this when I had mine fitted!

I've got the Parrot with Can-Bus so I control it from the steering wheel and have no additional display. If the calling number is recognised a voice prompt tells me who it is otherwise I can check on the phone.

The BMW kit is seriously expensive, the retrofit cable kit is £130, the bluetooth module is £600 and they need to charge 3 hours labour install and then around 3 hours for coding.

£90 must be a typo.

The £90 maybe the bluetooth prep maybe?
Work won't pay for BMW bluetooth hence Parrot kit of max cost £200 fitted.
