N52 30i high idle - 800rpm instead of 600

I have an N52 30i engine (200KW/272hp) and it's started idling at 800rpm.

The idle is smooth. Cold-start is as it always was; blips to 1100rpm, runs at 1000rpm for a short while, then drops to 800rpm rather than 600. There are no faults stored. I changed the coil-packs and spark plugs; no change.

Turning on the A/C doesn't change anything, rpm stays the same. Turning the A/C on and then off...you feel a very slight change when the revs shift for maybe 1/2 second and then it's right back to 800rpm. Same if you are standing still and move the steering wheel around; revs move a little but always settle at 800 rather than 600.

Fuel is 98 octane (93 US) and filled from the same gas station as always.

What could be causing this?

EDIT: To add that the engine is stock. No after-market anything.

you battery can be discharged and car tries to rejuvenate it a little. Or you have some other high 12V DC consumption.

I've had this issue yesterday after a spirited drive. The problem went away after letting the car rest for a couple of hours. RPMs went back to their usual 600 (93/98 octane like yourself). I've read a couple of threads, could be an old battery and the DME is demanding more charge. Mine's something like 8 years old since I checked, no codes relating to charging system, air/fuel, etc.

Has the issue gone away for you?
