Tony Jackson's E91 Wagon

I've had this car for a little over a year now and figured it's time to start a journal. I missed documenting quite a few projects with this car already that I wish I had.

My wife and I bought this 2009 328i with 102k miles on. It's Alpine White with Saddle Brown interior and auto trans. The wagon was in decent shape but needed a few things addressed when we first got it. Below are a list of fixes and upgrades we've done since owning it. I'll include photos of the projects I actually did document.

Mods/Fixes:
Replaced Inner Passenger Door Handle
Replaced Driver Door Lock Actuator
Replaced Dash Vents with non-broken vents
Installed BMW All-Weather Mats
Installed Eibach Pro-Street-S Coilovers
Apex Arc8 in 17x9 +30
Falken FK510 in 255/40/17
Replaced Rear Wheel Bearing
Replaced Valve Cover Gasket

November 2018 when we first picked it up. It came with the roof bars and tint.

June 2019 we installed the Eibach coilovers and Apex wheels.

This is our daughter who thinks the car looks exactly the same as when we got it.

Shortly after this beach trip the rear wheel bearing started making some terrible noises. I ordered the wheel bearing kit from BMW of Riverside and waited until my holiday break to tackle the job. It took me a solid 3 days to get everything apart and back together again.

And all back together

I'll update more once something else breaks or we make another upgrade.

The wheels and stance of that wagon look great!

She's been wrenching with me in the garage for the last ten years and loves it. So lucky.

I work for Eibach North America and coincidentally we had put these E9X coilovers on sale to clear out the rest of our stock so I grabbed one of the last sets. The part number is 2085.711 if you get lucky and find a set on the shelf somewhere. These are monotube shocks and ride very good.

how do you like the FK510s?
they're currently on my short list for summer tires.

specifically, are they noisy?
Every reviewer says they give up some performance for comfort, and that's what I'm after.
It's not a track car for me, it's a long distance cruiser and I like it quiet.

I really like the FK510s. I think they're a great commuter tire. They look great. They're wearing great and I don't think they're noisy at all. But i'm probably not the best person to comment on the noise as my other two cars have no carpet or sound deadening.

I don't mind a little feedback, but these continentals I had at 40% tread were really starting to annoy the dog out of me at freeway speeds.

so if they're reasonably quiet for a performance tire I'm sold.

the cost certainly helps the sale.
a staggered set for my wagon will be less than $500 shipped to me door.

Man I'm always so jealous how cars age in dry climates. Your hub looks the same as it came out of the factory. Here is mine after a +10 years in the rust belt (before and after pics after sandblasting):

Dang that's the look I want in mine. I have Bilstein b12s and they're just not quite low enough. Maybe lowering perches up next

Thanks!

You could also do a Ground Control coilover sleeve set up with your Bilsteins if you're trying to achieve a specific ride height.

Fault Codes P0171 & P0174:

We recently started getting an SES light for lean bank 1 and 2. Friday night I decided to take off the intake and engine covers to inspect everything.

I cleaned the MAF sensor and intake box first and noticed nothing unusual. When I pulled off the beauty cover and cabin filter housing I noticed the broken PCV hose near the firewall.

I re-attached the hose with gorilla tape as a temporary solution to isolate the issue. Drove the wagon to work yesterday and no SES light.

Going to order replacement hoses and may try and tackle the DISA intake manifold upgrade while in there. It looks like the local Pick-A-Part has a few different donor options for me to choose from. I'll update once I have all the parts lined up to swap over.

That vent is a PIA to get off at the firewall. I would also highly recommend the stage 3 intake.

That's what I'm thinking. Might as well while I'm in there.

the disa manifold is fantastic, and you're gonna be there.

I replaced my factory plastic nonsense with a 3/4" low pressure hydraulic return hose.
