HELP: strange clicking noise underneath the back of air filter box.SOLVED
Hi can anyone help me to diagnose this issue I have since getting my car back after turbo rebuild. I'm also getting a check engine light for post cat 02 sensor but unsure if related to this

Just do a Google search of 335i engine knocking noise, first result is from e90 post by jsandore92, sounds similar to yours. For him it turned out to be the rod bearings.
Good luck

thanks for the replies. The thing is it wasn't making that noise until it went in a garage for the turbos to be stripped sent off for rebuild then reinstalled. I went to pick up car and it was making that noise. It's intermitent and not throwing any codes. The guy at the garage said it was a pump of some sort trying to pull extra air and thats why it starts and stops randomly. I called bs on that because it wasn't making that noise prior to going in to the garage. It went in for wastegate rattle. The turbos were reconditioned by Universal turbos and they are noticeably better. It's frustrating as hell, it doesnt appear to be affecting performance as it's definitely got more power since the recon. i am assuming something must not have been put back on correctly otherwise it's too coincidental.

I have found the noise. a pipe for something to do with the heater matrix wasn't installed by the garage that "repaired" my car. I popped it back together and the noise is gone.
