"information" feature on Navi

I use the "information" feature on my navi a lot when I want to find a certain store/location I'm searching for in the area. I usually use the "new location" under information, but sometimes I can't really fit which category the location I'm looking for fits in. Is there any way I can select "all categories" and simply input the name of the place for my navi to find it? It seems that if I get the wrong category, and input the name of my location, it still won't find it. Can I use this feature without giving it a category, even though I know the name of the place I want?
