Im doing some prep work for FBO, I have installed the BMS Intake, and have the BMS Oil Catch Can and Charge Pipe ready to go in, I haven't had a chance yet. Ill be looking at an FMIC, DP, Exhaust, JB4 soon Not sure when. Have I missed anything for FBO? Then I also want some MPSS tyres, Ceramic Pads and possibly some DBA Discs.

24/11/2015 - $1110.97 - BimmerTech Rear Camera Install
NOTE: Price is for the front camera, rear camera and the mutimedia box. First part of the full install, I have purchased the front and rear cameras from BimmerTech. The install and cable routing for the rear camera took around 2 hours. Most of the time was spent Googling how to remove parts of the car. None of it was particularly difficult now that I have done it. The trim removal tools were a huge help. Step 1. Remove the trunk lid carpet trim Using a trim removal tool, remove the 10 plastic plugs (Highlighted in RED) that hold the boot carpet on. They simply pop out and back in. Then just pull the trim piece off and move it away to give yourself a good workplace inside the trunk. Step 2. Remove the trunk opening button Using a trim tool and some paint protection (micro fiber towel) Just pry this out from the top (closest to you). Its held in with some small clips (Highlighted in BLUE) There is a single cable plugged in, just unplug it. Step 3. Insert the new Camera / Trunk Button Feed the cables into the hole and push the new button into place until it clicks in. Nothing needs to be taken from the old button and reused. Plug in the cable you had previously unplugged (Highlighted in GREEN) and test that your trunk opens. Ignore video cable for now. Step 4. Route the video cable up to the dash Now the fun begins... The video cable that is attached to the camera will reach over to the rubber cable tube but wont go inside, grab the extension cable and plug it in. Hide the cable up in the trunk in the holes. Find a way to drag the extension cable through the rubber cable tube that connects the trunk cables to the car. I used a clothes hanger. At this point you can put the carpet trim back onto the boot, I found inserting the bottom part of the plastic plugs first and then the tube part made it easier. Now feed the cable through and into the boot. I suggest removing the black plastic plug (Highlighted in ORANGE) and the battery compartment cover. The cable is shown with a YELLOW arrow. Now move inside the car behind the drivers seat. To lift up and remove the rear right passengers seat, there are two attach points (Highlighted in RED) Simply grab the seat and pull straight up with force, they will pop out, don't worry you wont damage anything, but your back into it! I found that it was very dirty under the seat, lots of built up crap. Also a random cable not plugged into anything. I tucked it away Pull this foam thing out to reveal some cables, this will be where you drag your video cable. (RED arrow) Next remove the side of the seat, pull from the top, it is held in place with a large connector, again, like the seat, this requires some force to pull it out, there is no risk of damaging anything I promise. Move that side piece out of your way, you will see there is a fair amount of wiring here. Now remove the black plastic plug shown in RED, and pull the carpet trim away, you will pull the video cable through this gap. (Shown in BLUE) Video cable highlighted with GREEN arrow Now feed the cable down the side and tuck it in, it show be obvious where to run it. Remove the plastic side trim that is next to the drivers seat. To do this, start at one end and pull directly up, there are 7 plugs that will pop out, don't bend it too much. Some of the cream coloured plugs might stay attached to the car, you will want to remove them and slide them onto the black plastic piece, it will be impossible to re attach it if you don't. Feed your cable along and tuck in under the carpet, I even pushed mine down and far as I could to get them out of the way. And im going to end this part here, I have the cable going from the camera on the trunk to the drivers side footwell area. Ill attempt the front camera soon.

It's quite annoying that it still activates voice control and the car starts talking at you, wish it could be disabled.

Mines activated by pressing and holding the 'previous track' down button, or using the idrive controller by pulling it back. |

I saw some people do it trhough the center console, and I am not really big fan of that. I preffer your method. If you ahd to do it again, is there anything you would've done differently? Thanks |

I removed the cover under the steering wheel and fed it through there and into the centre console area where the new multimedia box needs to be located. I'm not sure what you mean by my method, both cables must terminate in the centre console.

Been looking at a reverse camera for a bit now.
Bit of a functionality question, does the reverse camera completely take over the use of the proximity 'radar' image, or can you get both images up? Ink, does the Alekshop one fit into the same location, boot handle part? :S |

The reverse camera takes over the screen and uses the reverse sensors to do object mapping (Draws walls in the same colours to mark objects) You can still press the proximity button on your center console to activate the old top down view of the car if you want to. There are two types of reverse cameras you should be aware of that display differently onscreen. There is the OEM integration which behaves like the OEM euro cars that have the reverse camera from the factory. BimmerTech Rear View Camera Retrofit (OEM Integration) And there is the 3rd party with object marking. BimmerTech Rear View Camera Retrofit I prefer the third party because it displays the video footage full screen, it looks really nice. Please note, the third party can also do the dynamic moving lines.

No way, so much more work involved doing that. Running it up the side you just pull it up, its so easy.

Few recent changes.
-Headlight washer cover spring was broken so I got a replacement from BMW then got my local guys to spray it up. -Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers and Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser from EuroDivision install by me. -Had the Performance Exhaust installed at Advan in Sydney. -Had a professional detail, the pictures don't do it justice, i cant believe the difference polish makes haha I need to start doing it myself now.
