MY left rear just went out too! it was half way down but I lifted it with my had to push it all the way up, is that normal? the window just glids up and then starts to slip back down. Could it be the regulator that seems to be going out on alot of E90's. Is this write up for the 325i?

Your owners manual has instructions on resetting this. If I remember correctly you just hold the window switch in the up position for about 10 seconds.

I don't know how I did it but it works now. I was holding it up so it would go up and as soon it went all the way up it came back down. I tried it so many times that when it actually reset itself. I did the following:

1. I pressed down all the way and kept it pressed for about 10 secs.
2. the I press up and it went about a 1/4 and the pinch protection system malfunctioning flashed(window w/ exclamation mark).
3. kept pushing up went half way
4. kept pushing up went 3/4
5. kept pushing up closed all the way up(and as soon as I noticed it remained up) I kept the button pressed up for 10 secs.

And BAM!!!!!! that reset it. I guess the car was just getting tire of me doing all these up and down and press for 10 for 30 secs etc LOL!!!!!

Thanks Guys at E90post, I got to go to a Meet to actually know some of you in person and personally thank you.

anti trap

could someone help me with this. i had the same trouble like everyone else where the regulator broke on my driver rear door and a month later on the passenger rear door. i replaced them both but i was getting a anti trap symbol on the dash and when i closed the windows all the way they would go up to the top and come back down half way one of them i was able to reset by holding up the button for 10 seconds but the other one while i am trying to hold the button up the window goes down half way and will not reset. i tried to put the window down all the way first and push the button down to possibly reset it and then go all the way up and try to pull the switch again to reset the anti trap but i am not able to do so. i really dont want to take it to the dealer so they can charge me 200 bucks for 5 minutes work.

My rear driver side window broke and the other side was also acting up. Lucky for me, I had the extended warranty and they were both covered with a $50 deductible at the dealership. If the actual price quotes I saw here are for real. I just saved $750...

Just like everyone else is saying, this will save me a lot of money. Dealership said it was 400 and I bought the part from my local O'Reilly's for 73 with a lifetime warranty. Excellent DIY! Thank you!

So I managed to replace the regulator. Everything worked but the window would go up, then roll itself halfway down. I was in the process of using the, "hold for 10 seconds" tricks others have posted when the power window actually stopped working. I would have to hold the window button for about 10-15 seconds before it would start to work again; this was with either the driver window button(s) or the actual rear passenger button.

I was finally able to stop the window once it was rolled up, so I should be ok to drive as long as I don't use the window. Anyone know what is going on here and how to fix it?

Just hold the drivers control button for the window in the up position for 10 seconds and it will reset. It is just a protection mechanisim in case someones arm is stuck in the window. Sometimes it takes one or two attempts.

Hmm, I will have to try this again. I attempted it about 3 or 4 times without any changes. The window still won't work at all until the button is held for 15 seconds or so.

I did the rear regulator and was running into problems with the anti trap mechanism.

At first it was going down fine but on the way up it was going to the top and coming down half way.

I tried a few different methods and honestly spent more time trying to figure out the anti trap than it actually took to do the repair.

After a bunch of different methods nothing works. The manual says that if you roll it all the way up and pull the button again within 4 seconds it disables the anti trap, you'll see a picture on the dash of a window and exclamation point.

This did nothing but disable the trap.

The problem with the window is it needs to know where the top and bottom is to have the one touch function and anti trap to work in harmony, so you need to program the bottom and top memory sequence into the car.

But the TRICK I found was that you need to do it in order.

STEP 1: First hold the button down til the window gets to the bottom. You will hear the motor click on a few times once it hits the bottom. Hold for about 10 or so seconds.

STEP 2 : Next pull the button up to begin raising the window, continue holding. The window will start going up in increments and stop. continue hoding the button until it finally makes its way to the top. Continue holding for 10 secs and you will hear the motor clicking like it did when you programmed the bottom memory.

DONE !!!

If the window doesnt go up in increments on the way up. Start over with the down memory sequence in step 1.

Hope this helps.

I did the above sequence a number of times and got everything working except the auto up, which started working the next time I drove the car, ie. after I had turned the ignition off and back on.

Thank goodness for this DIY! Ordering the part from tischer and gonna knock this one out. Had my rear driver side replaced under warranty and just a few days ago passenger rear crapped out. Wierd thing is, it only fails to go up when I roll the window all the way down. In any other position it rolls right up. I'm guessing eventually it just fails altogether?

Also, when I replace the regulator, should I keep the window in the down position?

This is great, but no one seems to have mentioned how important reinstalling the vapor barrier (that black soft thing between the interior and the door frame, shown in the very first photo of the OP) is. It's pretty important to put that back EXACTLY as you found it, since it stops condensation from entering the cabin and destroying your upholstery (mainly carpets). Not to mention absorbs some road noise, but the vapor barring is more important.

Search for 3M automotive strip caulk, I found it on Amazon. It's about $20 shipped for 60 1' strips (more than enough to do all 4 doors), but worth every penny to ensure you get the vapor barrier correctly resealed.

Thanks for taking the time to post the DYI... It helped immensely while changing my window regulator. For those that also need a little more of a visual, I found this to be helpful, too.

Rear Passenger Window Anti-Trap Error

I replaced the window regulator on the rear passenger side and while re-learning the window (top limit and bottom limit), the window became unresponsive. I tried connecting the motor to the other rear door (when I replaced the actuator on that side !!!) and it rotates and seems to be operating normally. I still have no response from the rear passenger door. I have the anti-trap error code on the dash display. What could have caused this problem? I had no problems with the other door and it works fine. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!
