Service Engine Soon
So I got a code thrown the other day driving a bit hard and it cleared in 30 seconds. Thought nothing of it. Today it happened again and car was running rough. I plugged in my Cobb AP and read the code. Cylinder 1 misfire and it was running shitty. Cleared it and then it was smooth.
Any help is very appreciated. Thanks guys!!!!!

Move the coil pack from cyl1 to cyl2 ... drive it ... see if the missfire moves to cyl2 ... if so, buy a new coilpack
If it stays on cyl1 you can try swapping the spark plugs from 1 & 2 ... drive it ... see if the missfire moves ... if so replace your spark plugs If it stays on cyl1 then you probably have a bad injector and you can try and replace that

Moving the coil pack is easy and quick. Just follow the cobb video on misfires I think they show exactly how in it. Or just search. I would bet you just need new plugs, which you should do yourself it's quick and easy.

I just replaced all my plugs and coil packs last weekend ... probably didn't need to do all the packs but I'm at almost 70k so why not, plus I just went back to having it tuned
If you have any questions or need a hand let me know ... I'm in Peabody

Does it matter what plugs I purchase? I see OEM are around 20-25 each and others are around 12-15 each. Thanks!

I bought all 6 for like $75 on Amazon. Just make sure you have a tq wrench when you tighten them back up.

I see them on Amazon. Much better than getting them from BMW stealership!

yeah you will need a super thin walled 12 point socket i think. I bought mine on amazon or burger sells them. You can't grind down a normal socket usually, it has to be really thin.

Replaced the Coil Pack from Cylinder one. Got it at BMW for wholesale price. 50.00 Tried to repeat the SES light but pushing the car with no success.....meaning success?!?! I wanna get it to WOT later on to be sure its fixed. I did pick up all 6 plugs but did not have tool to replace them. HAHA I will do this soon to make sure car runs super smooth.

Ok so WOT and now I have misfire in cylinder 3 ugh....
I plan to change spark plugs next. I changed from Stage 1 + Fmic to Stage 1 and could not get engine codes back even while driving hard. Maybe it's the Fuel Pump?!?! |

Weird thing happened to me. I had a bad coil and replaced all 3 of them in the first bank. I went from a single cylinder misfire at WOT to misfires on the whole first bank at idle. Literally shuffled those 3 coils around in the first bank and all the misfires went away. You should check to make sure you seated all the coils properly, maybe swap them around in that first bank. Also if you're tuned I suggest a spark plug that is 1 step colder than OEM.

Thanks guys! Next step will be replace plugs and check coils.
I also got a fuel pump message on my I drive monitor. Said fuel pump malfunction car is driveable but schedule appointment Not sure if that's normalish when changing maps etc. Running on Stage 1 aggressive ST and even WOT getting no codes. This is like a science test. Haha |

The code numbers I have erased like a retard. HAHA
It was Cylinder 3 Misfire Happened on three seperate pulls as I kept trying different maps with Stage 1 + FMIC Once I did the Stage 1 only it was fine even at WOT.... Plan is to install plugs I already bought and see if it helps.... Next would be to try new coil packs....then maybe walnut blasting?

You don't get the misfire on lower boost maps which makes sense. Walnut blasting can't hurt but I highly doubt it is the cause of your misfires.

Sparks, Coils, then maybe chase the HPFP. I'm doing the same myself. Going to do some logging and pull codes soon. I think it's the HPFP (previous owner had a replacement done) since I had the sparks and carbon cleaning done earlier this year.

Good thing plugs and coils are quick to do on this platform. If either of you have a failing HPFP you might want to wait a month and see if you can limp by if you can on a lower boost map and get the single shotgun VTT upgrade. Enough to run 100% E85 on upgraded frames unless I am mistaken. He also has brand new HPFPs to go with it if needed. Just a thought.
