That's what I love about it, DCT BMWs seem much faster than they really are because of the ability to shift so quickly with the DCT, I drove one and fell in love with the DCT and always hoped that someone would develop something for the 6AT in our cars that could shift on par or as quick as the DCT.

Thankfully this will be out soon and will remedy the granny shifting auto/slushboxes we have on our cars.

Tentative release date set for March 30th!!

Quick recap of the different map modes, map 3 looks awesome with the 10% increased line pressures:

Stage 1 is based on the Alpina file and sports most of the things people know from the Alpina flash. The most noticeable thing changed is the Warmup behaviour. Whereas the Alpina sometimes shifts quite harsh, this flash smooths things out by leaving the TCC completely open in Gear 1 - 4. This helps, to speed up warmup of the trans and removes some harshness on shifts. Those transmissions are all together old now with a lot of miles, so things that where perfect when new, now may not be as such anymore. When everythings cold, these things show up the most. Kickdown is removed in S/M mode and some minor issues with the Sport Mode and the rev-counter are solved. Besides from that, this is the flash to go for people wanting OEM software, but don't want to play around with WinkFP etc.

Stage 2 has pretty much any area changed. From Torque Converter control (warm, cold, slip control) over all Shiftmaps (D/S/M, uphill, downhill driving, Warmup, Hotmode) to the TQ reductions and clutch timings in shift transitions. This map reflects, (IMHO) how a proper Transmission setup should look like. The driving experience is more like with a Manual transmission. Kickdown is removed in D/S/M. Very low TC slip (only when really necessary), proper RPM/TQ ratios to make use of the N54/N55 rev-range and extremely fast gear shifts in M mode. Rev range is extended to 7200 RPM, TQ Limiters are upped to 516 lbft (700 Nm).

Stage 3 builds on Stage 2 and adds True Manual Mode (no upshift at Engine Limiter), further upped 737 ftlb (1000 Nm) torque limiters and a 10% Line Pressure increase. Additionally this Stage is planned as a Map Pack, with several versions to accomodate various driver styles and it will be the first to get further developments like throttle blips in D mode, multi downshifts on braking in corners etc.

All this information is preliminary and subject to change during the Beta Phase!

Based on this analysis, stage 1 and 2 are better for the daily driver and stage 3 will be more track oriented?

The normal map 3 won't be any more harsh than the other maps, just more features. D mode is the same between all, the added benefits come in S and M modes.

So in short, just go Stg 3 from the beginning and you have all the rest included/covered, right??

Btw, thanks for the update and all the info you've provided!!

You're welcome. Yes, if you want luxury, just stay in D and all is good on all maps. Sport mode is changed on all, but more aggressive as map numbers go up (small difference between 2 and 3). Manual modes gets the biggest changes between maps, but if you are in manual mode you are wanting it aggressive anyway! So yes, the best option for most will be to just go with map 3 from the beginning.

I think he meant S/M and not D/M. They did have a more aggressive D mode in map 3, but have since changed it back to the same as the rest of the maps.

Hmm ok would make no sense to not have it in "S" tho, the only mod were the kick down should be disabled is "M".

This looks promising, at least for us with the dreaded MEVD1726 DME, whom cant do shit to their own cars, because BMW has locked it down like a mofo to sell their PPK for $1200

This is just kick down, not the ability to downshift all together. So the tranny would downshift when the programming called for it, not just because you floored the throttle.

^^ Do you know at what throttle the car would still drop a gear or 2,3. It's that it reads that no matter what throttle your at if you are in "S" it will not downshift. Cause isn't kick-down and downshift the same thing

No, kickdown is the button under your accelerator pedal. So you could be in 4th at 4k rpm and it will downshift to 3rd at 6k rpm even though you would have accelerated faster in 4th (made up #'s). Disabling kickdown will let it look at the mapping in the computer and decide if it should downshift or not. Kickdown is used to get a quick downshift to happen because the stock mapping is so slow. With the much faster downshifts it isn't needed any more.

Ah, Ok, Thanx for the clearing of that. Just wasn't sure what the difference is. My whole thing is when the wife takes the car she use's if in "S" I just dont want here to be trying to manual downshift the car,

For me I drive in "M" 100% on the time
