I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question regarding upgrading the head unit as I have not heard of it being done to these units however, surely it would be far easier (and sound better) to do the Alpine upgrade?

The amps used to upgrade the BM54 units are fairly cheap and sound much better that stock. Wandered whether the same was true for these.

Alpine upgrade is what I’d like.. but no challenge in that !

Interesting, I also like a challenge..... I have the unit from my car sat in a box doing nothing as I have an Android unit fitted.

I could open it up and take a look.....

I have the alpine amp and it sounds good. What about adding a 3rd party amp if not alpine upgrade?

I’ve gone from stock to Alpine and then aftermarket. The alpine upgrade is superb and nice and easy to install.

Can’t beat going aftermarket fully though if you’re after proper sound improvement.
