I copied things over to a 64 GB USB memory stick such that the root contained the pkgdb folder and config.nfm file. But when I plug it into the port in the glove box, nothing is happening. I wonder if the car isn't liking the large memory stick even though I have formatted it as FAT32. When I upgraded in the past I used a smaller 32 GB memory stick. |

I think i remember reading that it would only read/recognize 32gb or smaller flash drive but i might be getting that mixed up with something else.

I was able to update my 11 M3 with SanDisk 128GB USB3.0 drive formatted to FAT32 with MBR partition map. I don't believe you need USB2.0 to get this to work.
All I did was drag all the contents of the "NAVD_00005C4B_255_005_229" folder into the root folder and it was working perfectly. This is far easier than the 4 part method.

I have a gut feeling your USB is configured as GPT partition map instead of MBR. My 128GB USB was recognizable when it was set to FAT32 and MBR.

I found the SanDisk 32 GB USB memory stick that I used for previous updates and it worked just fine. I'm not sure why the Lexar 64 GB one didn't work. I may fiddle with it some more our of curiosity and will post an update if I discover anything interesting. Thanks to all of those who responded!

Yes, no matter where you get it from you will need a FSC code. Pretty cheap to buy on ebay or ways to get it free with ethernet cable and laptop.

Currently working on a CIC retrofit on my E92. Excited to try OP's method to get navigation working.
ALSO: came across 2019 premium maps version for North America (download: https://mega.nz/#!i24ESaTY!ZVETn8yf0...v5KvZde0PZYaXw) Found it in this thread: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1545593 |

I downloaded the map and installed it today. Thanks for the help!!
For Mega, I installed the desktop program and chose the free membership option. I didn't have 5GB temporary limits; it downloaded it in one shot I believe (I didn't watch it). For installing, I generated my own FSC code and installed it using a 32GB thumb drive (FAT32). The actual install took about an hour so plan accordingly. |

Or I believe if you register/sign up and also download their sync tool, your account gets flagged and the restriction lifted. |

Download their sync tool, make an account, then paste the link into the sync tool. Mine downloaded in about 15 minutes. Uninstall the tool when you're done. Use www.10minutemail.com to make a throwaway email if you want. |

Can I confirm if the iDrive asks for your "FSC code" to install the update?
The last update I had to use the 1b file to extract the FSC code in order to install. I was surprised it only took about 20-30mins to install the update from the 2018 maps. Last time it took roughly an hour, not sure if this is normal for everyone else. |
