N53 cam bearing ledge
Hi all
Wondering if anyone's heard of this affecting n53 engines? I found this link with a video which seems to be for an n53 but I'm not sure. https://www.f10-forum.de/index.php?t...ollleuchte-no/ I thought the bearing ledge issue was fixed with rubber o rings rather than the metal ones? Must admit I've never heard of this affecting n53 just n52 but I guess it's not surprising. Thanks Mike |

No, I've not heard of any instances affecting the N53. I also don't know if any of the N53 production was late enough to get the Teflon rings from the factory.
Looking at this BMW bulletin (see link below - USA I think) I'm not sure the ledges in your video are that bad. The bulletin says 'minor grey wear marks are normal'. It's only if there are deep grooves that oil pressuere to the Vanos unit may be lost. And even then it's only a problem if performance drops off and the DME has the error codes mentioned: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...32779-8218.pdf Another good reason to adopt an oil change frequency that's much more regular than the service indicator would tell you I reckon...
