So I have 60 4K on my car right now. The transmission oil has not been changed and I know that if I don't change it soon then I'll pass my window of opportunity according to what I've read.

My question is should I just drain the fluid and fill with new fluid or should I also change the pan and filter? I was thinking I drain and fill right now and then change the pan and filter at about 80 K or 90 K?

I already purchased 7 quarts of redline D6 ATF.

Also just wanted to verify that the torques back on the bolts is 12nm?

Does anybody know the bolt pattern for the trans pan?

Change the filter. Also, check the mechatronic sleeve seal.

I just went to reset my oil service light because I changed my oil, however it didn't reset for some reason and it still says change oil in 13,000 miles. Last time I reset my light it went to 15,000 what's going on?

I just did mine at 73k. It's 328XI. Drop the pan and change the filter. I got a filter/gasket kit online and the factory gasket was better than the replacement so I reused factory one. My kit came wih a new set of pan bolts, so I'm guessing they are one time use. Might want to look into that.

Mine is auto trans calling for Dex VI. I used MaxLife Synthetic. Have about 700 miles so far and no difference. Before I get flamed for this fluid....the Dex VI spec is pretty stringent and MaxLife meets it. Lower initial viscosity but shear stable over life of the fluid.

While your at it a good time to do diff's and or transfer case as well. Good luck.

Just wondering, does "shear stable over life of the fluid", mean it's shear stable until it's not shear stable? JK. JK. Seriously though, what is the expected life of the fluid? 60000 miles?

On every car that I've owned whether manual or automatic transmission I always change the fluid at 30,000 mile intervals.

On my Shelby Mustang I change the fluid every 20,000 miles and it's a Six speed manual.

Many of the newer fluids that resist shearing for a longer period of time over the previous spec'd fluid are now labeled "lifetime" fill. What does it all mean???? My idea of "lifetime" is different than the manufacturers. Also depends upon your driving style and conditions.

Also 75w90 redline oil for front and rear diff?

What about the transfer case? Is this job dealer only? What fluid does It take?

I have almost 1k on my trans since I did this. No leaks prior and no leaks now.

Transfer case looks like there is only one product to usel; BMW oil for this application. It's nearly $50 a quart/liter but you only need 1 bottle. It's not hard at all. Life it a jackpot though.

I used M1 75-90 in front at rear....RedLine will do the job quite well.

We never saw "lifetime" fluids until manuf started offering free maintenance for however long. We also never saw 15k between oil changes either. Until they started paying for it.

Amazing how cars suddenly went from recommended 3k oil changes to 15k. On a twin turbo? Hmmm. Granted there are new oils out there, and new engines, but I suspect previously the change interval was far too soon and now it is far too long, for all fluids and maintenance (that costs them something). And how much the fluids themselves cost, absurd. $25/qt for magic ATF? GTFO. Redline used to be considered expensive now it is low end compared to this stuff.

Also amazing how many things need to be done after 50k on these cars. Which of course is when the warranty expires. Myself I plan on changing all the "lifetime" ATF diff and TC fluids @ 40k. Probably with redline.

edit: my other car diff tranny etc recommended change interval is 40k. Been using redline in it for a long time.

That is true!! "Lifetime" is a totally irrevelant term when it comes to a car. SN rated oils and the LL spec means you are using an excellent oil but I wouldn't approach 15k without UOA's to back it up and even then I'd be cautious with a stock filter. 10k with a TBN of 1.5 or better and low TAN would be my limit. Otherwise I couldn't sleep at night
