I think there is a scheduled early oil service on the turbo engines, IIRC. In any case, whatever the light is, take it in, it will be covered under BMW full service.

The computer decides when the car needs a service depending on how hard it has been driven and other factors. 15000 is only an average figure.

You may want to do some research within this forum (and elsewhere) with regard to the 15K oil change intervals. Tests have proven that, contrary to what BMW believes to be safe, synthetic oils begin to lose lubricity/breakdown at about 7500 miles.

15K oil isn't a pretty sight ........

check your gas cap is tightened, or it is beacuse emission level suddenly increased. wait for a while if light goes off.

its not big deal.

thanks all for your help, i used the search and saw some common problems. I took off the gas cap and tightened, i also started the car up again and light went away... 100 miles and 2 driving cycles and no light... i think that solved it...

oil change was done at 1500 miles (break-in) and 8500 miles (ever 7k miles)

i too agree that turbo cars and the heat in miami break down the oil quicker and dont want to see the end result of the :::15k::: oil changes when i purchased the car...

thanks all for your input... appreciate it!!!

The light came on last Thurs and I didn't have time to bring the car in for service until today so it has been for more than a week. The tech said my map thermostat failed so they replaced it with a new one.

The service engine soon light has nothing to do with oil changes. The service engine soon light is telling you the car has found an issue with the power train, most likely an emissions related failure.

did the service light only come on at start up and disappear after the car is running? Because I get that and the triangle with the snowflakes with the exclamation at start up. It doesn't stay on however. I'm not too worried as my car is still under warranty and has the maitenance program.

The triangle with the snow flakes is just telling you that it is 37 degrees or lower and that it could snow.

Actually, the snowflake tells you that there could be ice on the road.
