Maybe it's just me, but I'm a little iffy w/ E85. The performance gains are def their (especially at the price), but nobody knows the long term impact it'll have on the motor & fuel system. I know E85 isn't going to degrade the quality of the block or anything serious, but there's no guarantee that nothing detrimental will happen.

Basically, I just wouldn't want E85 sitting in my tank. Would have no problem if I was going to a track day or something & was gonna burn through everything I put in the tank.

I'd be more comfortable with E85 in my tank than having meth in my windshield reservoir.

The tank is not an issue, its the fuel injectors. Over on another forum, an engineer traded a few emails with one of the lead design engineers for continental(designed the N54 fuel system). Here are his remarks;

"Have you experience with this engine and E85 fuel or do you have any thought on it ? Can e.g. the injectors handle alcohol ?
We have a lot of experience with E85. Currently, we have an issue that if the injector is hotter than 100 Celsius, we are seeing melting of the fuel filter in the injectors. As long as the temperature of the injector stays under the 100 Celsius, this engine is perferctly capable to run E85. As a matter of fact, it will run E100 without any problem under cold conditions. There is no need to preheat the fuel.
He said that in their testing, E85 caused damage to the fuel injectors when used in high concentrations and the engine was at high temperatures."

This is good to know -- So as long as you're running a reasonable E85 blend (less than 40%) and not ripping on the car it should be fine. Lulz, no idea if you'd know this but does anybody know how hot do the fuel injectors get w/ pump gas or even race gas (100 octane)??

Sorry for the late reply. Had no Internetaccess during the weekend.

Here you go.

Ian from COBBtuning said, that more than 3 Cylinders are knocking and asked me if my Sparkplugs are old. In the Servicebook it says that BMW changed the plugs after 47.000km and now my car has 83.0000km. I ordered a set of sparkplugs and also a set of Sparkcoils to be safe. But I have no codes thrown at any point.

Should I uninstall the AP. At the moment I'm running Stage 1 Drive map.

Regards

no need to uninstall. Just run the 100-102 octane gas you have in germany and wait till you replace the coils and plugs.

Ok good to hear.
If I understand the Graph correct, the "Timing Correction" for Cylinder 2 and 6 is ok because its always 0°?

On the other 4 cylinders I have corrections ->

That means the Sparkplug cannot ignite at the right time(maybe because its too used and old) or the Sparkcoil is not providing enough current for the Sparkplug to ignite.

Boost, AFR, etc. are those values ok and good???

So after ich change the Plugs and/or coils I can do another Log with Stage1+ Sport and if thats ok I can try the aggressive map?

Timing corrections are an indication that the DME is seeing "unsafe" conditions(DME is overly sensitive) and is pulling timing. There could be many causes for this, as Enrita suggested i would run some higher grade fuel until you can replac the spark plugs, and relog. Ideally, you want no timing corrections but since the dme is so incredibly sensitive thats hard to achieve. If you see 3 or more cylinders having timing corrections at the same time, that is when you should begin to worry. Also, when the DME pulls timing you are losing power/performance.

100 C = 212 F, being that we run direct injection im sure that the fuel injectors are typically hotter than 212 F. Time will tell, but my personal opinion is that blends of up to 50% appear to be fine. Its bad practice anyhow, but i would also try stay away from running the car hard and shutting it off immediately without first driving leisurely for a few minutes to help cool it off.

Well i was using 98 RON for a map which should work with 95 RON.
But new sparkplug's never hurt. Will 102 RON make a difference?

It could/should. I would fill up on 102 RON and log it, see if the multiple cylinder timing corrections go away.

I tried downloading it several times and i never could get it to work.

The best thing to do is to save/rename the file as a .txt and then just attach that directly.

Rev warning

I can't get the rev warning to work at all. I have a 08 335i and have tried it on a couple different tunes and rev limits with no luck. Any ideas???

You mean the rev warning that makes the handheld strobe?

I've never had an issue. Just to be clear, the AP has to be plugged and the screen will flash.

I know it's hooked up . It just won't do it. Everything else works fine.

How much does the ambiente temperature change the timing of the DME?

I mean there must be a differnce between 60°F and 95°F.
Is it possible that because of heat my timing corrections were so bad?

I believe the threshold is 140 F. Not sure if it would show as a timing correction, or if the DME just changes its target. If the DME targets less timing, it would not show as a correction.

Heatsoaked IC = Shit Performance + Limp Performance. Regardless if you're using the Stock IC or an aftermarket Core, a car running in 60-70°F is going to perform better than a car being run in 80-90°F

True, but a good aftermarket FMIC coupled with a true CAI will do a better job at avoiding heat soak. Case in point, last night I did a hard 3rd gear pull in 86 degree temps...my temp at the TB was 99 degrees. I did that pull after my car was warmed up and my oil temps were at 230.
