Question Extended Warranty Question

Hey Everyone,

Planning to pick up a 08 e92 328i. The car has about 33k miles on it and a clean Carfax.

From what I gather, the 328i's are much more reliable than the 335i's, but would love to hear some opinions on whether you would buy an extended warranty for the car and maybe what price you would pay for the warranty.

Thanks!

I paid $2,600 for extended warranty on 335i. It had 28k miles when I bought it and 41k miles now. Only thing I will have to pay for between now and 100k is tires and gas. So, I'm told anyways. Also, the warranty stays with the car. You can sell the car and charge extra for warranty.

The 335i currently has more recalls than the 328i, yes. Though, I don't put much stock into "reliability" problems with the 335i. Fuel pumps, oil coolers, tweeting brakes... these are all replaced under warranty easily enough. It will take a 335i hitting 200k miles to bring these rumors to rest.

However, I do plan to sell mine before 100k miles because it's an 07 and I don't want to be the guinea pig driving a beta design to 200k.

I paid $2100 or the extended warranty on my 328. Today I took the car in: oil change and filter, and a few other things replaced and checked which I can't remember. Total would have been about $350. I paid $0. I'll keep chipping away at my initial investment of $2100 and eventually break even/start saving once I hit that uber expensive brake job that's due around 75k miles.

So in my opinion, you can pay now or pay later. If you pay now, the up front cost is more, but you would most likely save over the total time you owned the car.

I'm at 43k miles, over the next few years will most definitely hit the 100k mark. I plan on keeping track of all expenses, am quite sure the warranty will have been worth it (fingers crossed).

Hey, I have a 328i also. I bought an extended warranty for it recently. If you shop around, please post your lowest price quote here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=420104
