LOL, no, Land Rover Discovery, my mum has just replaced her 540i with one! She does have a fun car though. Took it to Lincoln and back to pick something up which was debatable if it would fit in my 5 Series.

Very disappointed you lot have been telling me diesel and auto are good.

As scooba0010, what year and engine size ? What make of gearbox.

Hardly comparable. If it was a new Disco (heavy) even a petrol variant (4.4 V8) is "slow" ...

If it is the new V6 Diesel that is a Jaguar unit. Not on a par with BMW units for power but very refined - same as in the Jag in Top Gear last week.

So your comparing a Land Rover Discovery weighing anything between 2500 and 2700 kgs against a BMW coupe/saloon weighing around 1600 ish kg or a Tourer coming in at around 1720 kg.

Erm no I'm not comparing to a BMW at all, just saying about diesel autos, this is off topic and your average diesel auto is more your Land Rover sort of car than your BMW! If you think about it when people say "diesel" they will imagine a van or a large 4X4.

Not saying that the BMW isn't an exception, I know that the big d's are rather rapid!

I had a go in one of these earlier, but Porscha I can't see the attraction of these cars with no driver aids or creature comforts?

I think since the last LR facelift - the one TG took to the top of the Scotish mountain.

It is a cracking engine, but not really focused on drag strip performance, more on refinement.

In a Jag 2.7D I had for a little while, even the mechanics at our garage didn't catch on it was a diesel when I left it idling. I think it has active fluid-damped engine mounts.
